Home Hangovers: 4 Frustrating Home Issues and How to Handle Them

Written by Posted On Thursday, 01 June 2017 09:17

Whether you live in a new home or one that was built a century ago, there are issues that you might face that seem like they will never get fixed. There are a few things that you might need to call in a professional to handle. If you plan ahead and know what to look for, then most of the issues can be detected and handled yourself with minor assistance.

Odd Smells

There will likely be odd smells in the home at some point. Most of the time, you'll notice them from the washing machine, toilet and tub area and the dryer at times. In order to prevent some of the smells coming from the washing machine, remove clothes as soon as they are done washing instead of letting them sit. Avoid washing foods down the sink drain so that there aren't any nasty odors coming from the drain. Another idea for the washer is to leave the door open after each wash to air the machine out.

Plumbing Woes

Low water pressure is an issue that can affect everyone in the home. It's often a sign of a leaking pipe. Clogged drains are another common problem, especially if you tend to throw everything in the toilet and down the sink. Secure pipes with wrapping so that they don't freeze in the winter and bust. If you notice a decrease in pressure, then try to find the leak by walking around the outside of the home or listening underneath the home for water dripping. A plumber like Towers Murray Plumbing or someone similar can also come to search for leaks around the house and unclog drains so that water flows smoothly. There are a variety of different plumbers out there to choose from, so it can be helpful to spend some time online looking at their websites. Choosing a plumber that you feel you can trust and that can work with your budget is the most important thing.

Scrapes On the Floor

Whenever someone comes inside the home, it seems like there are scrapes and scratches on the floor. Hardwood and linoleum floors often see more scrapes and issues than carpets. Stain markers can be used to cover these scratches. You can also go over the floor with a scrubber to get out the scratches while adding natural shine back to the floor.

Squeaky Doors

When you open a door and it squeaks or there is a squeaking sound somewhere in the home from a door that has hinges that are older, it can be the most annoying sound. A little oil on the hinges can go a long way with silencing these squeaks. You might consider replacing the hinges as well.

There will always be something that you can find wrong in the home that needs to be fixed or that could use an improvement. Keep a few essential tools handy so that you are ready to repair these issues when they arise. It's sometimes best to keep a list of the things that you've fixed on hand in case you need to call in an expert
