You’ve probably seen a water damage team go over to sewers and homes with their tools with them. You’re must have been curious what are those things and what do those mean. What the heck is that large thing? What is a desiccant dehumidifier? Just like other professions, the terms used in this kind of career can be pretty confusing. Water damage specialist uses a lot of expensive and complex instruments and, of course, each has a different purpose. These articles will at least clear some confusion to help you understand what these tools do and why we use them.

A desiccant dehumidifier is one of the important tools a water damage specialist use. I won’t go all out with the definition of what this is but to make it short, it dehumidifies an area with a desiccant. It’s good for removing unreachable places like the edges of tiles and such. There will be no way to completely fix water damage without this dehumidifier.

Next is an Infrared Moisture Meter. Of course, each of this is an important tool of a water damage specialist, but this is one of the most important along with the dehumidifier. Simply put, as the name implies, this detects the moisture content in bulk solids using infrared. It’s an important part since before using the dehumidifier, you’ll be able to detect that hidden complications that needs the humidifier to be used.

One of the tools used by specialist is called the Air Mover. It’s mostly used for carpets to speed up the drying process. It will be placed around the carpet, lift it up by using a bed of air. This dries carpet at a greater rate than just letting the carpet air dry.

And lastly, a heavy roller, usually weighs 80-100lb. The roller is used also for carpet and squeeze out the remaining water after pumping. This used before the Air movers to dry the carpet as much as possible. Since air movers needs to lift the carpet, the rollers are used first to reduce the weight of the carpet.

With this in mind, you’ll have a better understanding of the tools water damage specialists use with their work. It’s not that complicated, but the names might be a bit hard to memorize. With these tools, you can comfortably relax knowing that they are completely used to restore your home.
