Safe Electric Service During the Demanding Holiday Season

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 10 October 2017 18:17

Just when you thought the summer would go on forever, the weather has begun to shift and the busy holiday season is lurking just around the corner. While many see this time of year as a time to enjoy the company of family and friends, most don’t stop to consider just how demanding it is on our home’s electric service until they see that sudden increase on their energy bill during the holiday season. In fact, according to the U.S Fire Administration, December is the deadliest month of the year for electrical fires.

Why? Consider the following:

- Cool fall weather means increased usage of heating units and power hungry space heaters.

- Less hours of daylight means increased usage of indoor and outdoor lighting.

- Homeowners are using kitchen appliances more in preparation of sumptuous holiday meals.

- The holidays are a time for elaborate holiday displays and festive outdoor lighting.

- Increasingly, holiday gift giving includes a number of energy consuming electronic devices such as tablets, game systems and smart phones.

All of these factors can put a significant strain on your home’s electrical system, which can mean disaster if your home’s electrical system is not up to the challenge. Fortunately there’s an easy and affordable way for you to identify any dangerous electrical issues your home may be hiding and keep your family protected this holiday season.

Electrical System Evaluation

In order to ensure your home’s electrical system is safe and capable of handling the electrical demands of the holidays, it is vital that you have a home electrical evaluation performed by an experienced and licensed electrician. Typically, most homes receive an in-depth electrical inspection by an electrician whenever they are bought or sold. However, if this inspection is conducted by an inexperienced or incompetent electrician or it has been more than 5 years since this inspection was conducted, chances are your home’s electrical system may not be as safe it should be.

- While these home electrical system evaluation can vary from one electrical service to another, at a minimum an electrical service evaluation should include:

- Inspection of electrical panel for proper labeling.

- Assessment of circuits and breakers to ensure they are able to handle your electrical demands.

- Evaluation of the home’s electrical system to ensure it is compliant with National Electrical Code.

- Testing of electrical circuits for potentially dangerous electrical issues.

A comprehensive report of all electrical issues found, how serious each is, and what is needed to correct each issue.

With a home electrical service evaluation from a licensed and experienced electrician, you and your family can enjoy the holidays with the peace of mind on knowing your home’s electric service is safe.
