Troubleshooting Tips: When Your Garage Door Opener Makes Grinding Noise but Door Wouldn't Budge

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 25 October 2017 02:01

You may notice grinding noises coming from your garage door making it ineffective. Since overhead garage doors consist of several parts such as springs, switch, pulleys and opener, it is best to know where the noise emerged.
This may be an issue with inadequate lubrication, loose chains, loose bolts or motor maintenance. But if all of these are properly working and you are careful in the upkeep of your door, check the main drive gear.
Since the main drive gear is made out of plastic overtime it can be burned out since it is connected to the motor. This is one of the common reasons for the grinding noise. Especially if it won’t lift, chances are, the main drive gear is badly burnt. In this case, replacement is necessary. This is quite complicated to accomplish if you are unfamiliar with garage door repairs. It is best to contact a garage door technician to do this for you.
