Signs of a Broken Garage Door Extension Spring

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 31 October 2017 01:50

Garage doors are typically very heavy. The springs make it easy for the door to be lifted either by the opener or manually. When a spring breaks, you may notice some changes on the movement or operation of your door. The following are the different signs that your door has a broken extension spring.
• Door opens only a few inches off the ground
When your garage door has a broken spring, the opener force activates. This causes the opener to stop pulling the door up. The opener force is a safety feature that is built in to most garage door openers. The activation of this feature prevents damage to your door and opener.
• Door falls faster than normal when going down
If your door goes down too fast when closing it using your automatic opener, you might have a broken extension spring. It is not the opener that does the heavy lifting, but rather the springs of your door.
If you think something is wrong with your door like a broken spring, do not hesitate to call a garage door service expert to get it sorted.
