Things To Do Before Buying A House

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 03 January 2018 04:20

Buying a property in Canada isn't a one-day process. You will need to get in touch with a real estate agent, a lender, a broker, property manager, an inspector and a solicitor. There are companies that actually offer you all as part of a package when you hire their services. But as an Armed Forces personnel, it's only wise that you search for comprehensive reviews of military mortgage professionals who can make the entire experience less stressful for you. Regardless, there are things you need to do before you purchase a home.

Ask for Recommendations

There are likely to be members of your family, friends or acquaintances, who have bought properties in the past, ask them to recommend some for you. Your being in the military means they might have a better knowledge of what areas to get good buildings, how much you should budget and what you should look out for. Take these recommendations and narrow them down to a final 3 or 5. Then you can fix a day to go have a look at the houses.

Inspect the Property

Since you already have a list of houses to look at, it's time you pay the home and the owner a visit. While on the way there, observe the environment to know if it's a place you would love to live and have a family in. When you get to the building, inspect properly to make sure there's nothing wrong with it. Tap the walls to see if they're hollow. Check the bathroom and kitchen for moulds. Does the plumbing work? Is water flowing properly? Does the toilet flush? Is the backyard safe? Are there pests or animals living there? Check for fixtures that need replacement or repairs. Then you can talk to the owner or their agent - depending on who's selling - for the asking price.

Get an Real estate agent or broker you are comfortable with

In the real estate business, everyone is out to make money. Estate agents in Canada charge a certain percentage for their services. Therefore, most of them are simply looking for ways to get a huge cut from every transaction. But you should look out for those who want you to also get a good deal. Wouldn't you feel bad paying 400,000 CAD for a 230,000 CAD house? Therefore, before getting a loan, let the broker or agent knows also know the limit to how much you're willing to spend for the property.

Keep in mind that the interest rates for mortgage payment could change. It's advisable that you get one you can pay off within a short period of time. Besides, won't you rather settle your loan and live in your home peacefully without worrying about so many financial responsibilities?
