Stucco Repair and Maintenance Tips

Written by Posted On Monday, 14 May 2018 01:35

For good maintenance of any surface there can be two ways. One is of prevention other is of cure that is repairing. The same happens for Stucco siding. Stucco siding is one of the most resilient sidings but every best has its downfall. Here we will provide you with tips that you can use to repair and maintain the siding. The tips will either be preventive or to cure it.

Painting cracking:

It is common observation that freshly applied paint causes cracking and bubbles within a few days. It is therefore important that you keep a close watch on the surface that has been painted recently. This needs to be done until a couple of weeks after the painting has been done. After some weeks the checking is suggested to be done twice each year so that defects can be seen at early stage if they occur on the walls. Early detection will allow you to repair the walls before the damage gets out of hand.

Wash walls:

Dust and dirt are enemies of every part of the house. It is thus recommended that the exterior of your house be washed twice every year. There are fan-type sprayers specially made to let homeowners wash their property without any problems and risk of damage. You can also use mild detergent, scrub brushes, warm water or any other cleaning solution sold commercially to clean the dirt and dust.

Mold:

The growth of mold can be seen within weeks after stucco has been painted. When and if you see even traces of mold use a sponge to apply some anti-mold solution in that area. Let it stay for half an hour. After this is done you can rinse the area but if you want mold completely gone do the same procedure 2-3 times. Once the mold has been completely removed you can re-paint the area.

Right product:

The use of the right product is crucial. Stucco is vulnerable to water and moisture and thus it is advised to use a water-proof primer and paint and good wall finishes to make sure the life of the wall is extended. The best paint to use on stucco is the acrylic latex paint.

Gap technique:

One preventive measure you can take is while installing stucco you can keep gap between two stucco areas. This gap is known as a control joint. The purpose of this gap is to prevent the spreading of cracks on large area. The gap will hold the crack in the area it is and thus the entire stucco repair won’t be necessary. This is a tip one should definitely apply to get minimum damage in case a problem is inevitable.

What to do if there is a problem and you can’t handle it or the damage has become too large to be controlled by these small tips? When this happens and it does happen stucco repair contractors are the ones you should be calling. They will come to your aid almost immediately and solve your issues in a professional manner.
