After moving to a new area, the first day at school can be really important both for kids and parents. Every mom and dad wants to make sure that their children will have fun and enjoy the class with new classmates. That’s why it is essential to be well prepared, and you can follow this getting ready for preschool checklist to help.

Getting Ready for School Checklist

1. Writing Supplies

For imagining stories, spelling words, and ABCs, here's what your kid will need for the first day of school:

- Composition Notebook or Book

This might be needed for writing practice. A few teachers might require a composition notebook with wide-rule pages so that your kids can have more room to practice.

- Pencils

A couple of jumbo pencils would be simpler for small hands to hold. But if the teacher doesn’t allow, it’s also good to choose the traditional wooden pencils.

- Pencil Sharpener

A portable, small pencil sharpener might be useful for keeping the pencils sharp so that your kids can write clear letters on paper.

- Erasers

Both eraser caps and stand-alone erasers are helpful in removing mistakes or errors on paper.

- Folders

Plastic or paper folders can be used to keep loose sheets such as classwork or student.

2. Art Supplies

These early years of school are filled with a lot of hands-on learning and crafting. Thus, having some art supplies will keep your kids engaged for hours.

- Crayons

A box of jumbo or triangular crayons is ideal. But many teachers might prefer a set of 24, 16, or 8 crayons in the standard colors.

- Smock

An oversized T-shirt or smock will keep your kid 's clothes clean during the messy crafts and arts.

- Glue

A glue stick is easier for pre-K students to hold and control, while liquid glue might be allowed for first grade and kindergarten.

3. Boxes and Bags

Keep everything organized with the right boxes and bags to carry, transport, and store supplies.

- Backpack

A backpack is great for carrying necessary items such as water bottle, lunch box, notebooks, and more. Make sure to select a pint-size model to fit your kid’s frame.

- Supply Box

A plastic bag or pencil box is useful for storing art supplies, pens, and pencils

- Water Bottle

A spill-proof water bottle should be filled at home so that your children can be hydrated during the day. Make sure to choose a model made of BPA-free materials and spacious enough for daily consumptions.

4. Miscellaneous

Do not forget other necessary items to keep your kids feel like at home:

- Tissue box

In the winter, tissue boxes are necessary to help your kids deal with cold or keep everything clean

- Antibacterial Wipes and Hand Sanitizer

Sanitary wipes and liquids can keep desks fresh and clean, as well as prevent germs from spreading

- Rest Mat

A soft carpet sample, towel, or blanket is necessary if your kid is in school for a full day as naptime and quiet time is often scheduled for the afternoons.

- Clothes

Many teachers often require a full set of clothes so that your kid can change after messy activities or water play.

Bottom Line, following this getting ready for preschool checklist will help ensure your child has everything they need for the first day in preschool. While it is important to remember backpacks and lunches, other miscellaneous items, such as wipes and extra clothes, can help their day go much smoother.
