Patios are a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors. But they can also have their disadvantages as well. Being outside can bring with it the unpredictability of the weather. One minute it can be too hot or sunny, or the next it could be raining. This is where patio awnings can save you a lot of difficulty by providing you with protection from the weather.

There are a large number of patio awnings available and a variety of manufacturers. When buying an awning it is important that you shop around as prices can vary between manufacturers and suppliers. It is even more important that you choose an awning that is of high quality as some have been known to fade prematurely or even rust.

Models can range from automated to manual. Automatic awnings are operated by a motor and can be retracted or extended with the push of a button or remote. Manual awnings will require you to crank a lever by hand. While not as convenient as automatic models’ manual awnings tend to be cheaper.

When investigating prices, it is important that you have measured the area that you want the patio awning to cover. This way you will get an accurate quote for the size of patio awning you are after.

Another type of patio awning that is probably the most popular among patio enthusiasts is retractable patio awnings. Retractable Patio awnings can be purchased in all different sizes to accommodate your patio but can be extended and retracted. A retractable patio awning attaches to the wall above the door leading to your patio and can be extended all the way out easily or retracted all the way back against the wall when needed. This means that you can shelter everyone from the elements when you have too much and then retracted it to leave in a bit of sunshine all with ease. Some retractable awnings can even be motorized, which means that you can extend and retract the awning all with the click of a button.

The last type of patio awning is basically a permanent roof built on the patio. A permanent awning can be built from many different materials such as wood, aluminum, synthetic wood and different types of metals. Building a permanent awning on your patio can make your patio more attractive and add to the quality of your home, but can be extremely costly to build because you are building a whole new structure rather than just a canopy. Another downfall to building a permanent awning is that it may need to be repaired as time passes by, and could withstand damage caused by storms and wind damage.

Listed above are three different types of patio awnings that you can use to house your patio. A canopy awning is definitely the cheapest option, but can also prove to be a big hassle sometimes. The retractable awning is the second cheapest and poses the most benefits of all options, while the permanent awning is quite expensive and might need repairs later on the road.
