Muddy Footprints on Carpet

Mud and dirt always seems to have a way of getting into one’s home. Whether this be by walking around your home with your shoes on, if you have pets, or any other reason, these elements are bound to enter your home. If you happen to have some muddy footprints on carpet, then you can easily get rid of them by following these tips.

Muddy Footprints on Carpet - What Now?

Remove Soil and Large Pieces of Mud from the Carpet

First of all, you should clean the surface of your carpet by removing large pieces of soil and mud from it.

Walk Away from the Muddy Footprints

You can easily remove all of the dirt and soil from the surface of the carpet by allowing the mud to dry prior to cleaning it. Although you should keep in mind that the mud should be completely dry before removing it, otherwise it can spread onto nearby parts of your carpet. After removing the mud and dirt manually, you should vacuum the carpet at slow setting to let it suck the remaining soil from it. You should try to remove as much soil as you can while vacuuming the carpet to follow the next step more easily.

Spot and Blot Muddy Footprints

Now, when you have dried up your carpet completely and removed most of the mud, dirt, and soil from the surface of your carpet, then your next and final step is to get rid of the muddy footprints. You should be able to easily find them on the carpet’s surface and blot them with a cotton towel to remove the stain.

Things required for the spotting and blotting step may include a spray bottle, ½ cup white vinegar, ½ cup cold water, and a white clean cotton towel.

You should fill the spray bottle with a mixture of ½ cup of water and ½ cup of white vinegar. Now, you should spray this mixture directly on the spot of muddy footprints on your carpet to remove the remnants of mud and dirt from it. Then you can use the white clean cotton towel to cover the area you have treated with the mixture in the spray bottle and stand over it. By standing on the muddy spot, you will apply more pressure than what you can apply with your hands, directly on it. It will allow you to remove all of the mud, dirt, and soil from the surface of your carpet. If you still suspect the presence of soil or mud in the carpet, as the soil starts lifting as soon as you remove the towel from that spot, then you can repeat this process until you are satisfied with the results before drying your carpet.

Bottom Line

Though by following the tips provided in this write up you can easily get rid of the muddy footprints on carpet, you should still keep in mind that certain types of soil such as red clay have certain minerals in them which can cause permanent stains on your carpet’s surface. In this situation, you should consult a professional carpet cleaning service before trying these steps yourself.
