Written by Posted On Thursday, 03 October 2019 20:45

Home selling is not as simple as it seems to find a buyer, sign an agreement, receive money and transfer the property. It is something more than that, you have to prepare the home for sale. Firstly, you do home staging and renovations to improve the resale value of your property to attract the buyers. Then after getting your target buyer for your property you sign an agreement for property selling and buying.

But this is not the final word. After signing the contract, there comes a time for a home inspection by a property inspector. Who evaluates each smaller details of your house for a buyer to build their trust in you or if they may find something big, they can still walk out of the contract. Therefore, the inspection phase is a very crucial stage in real estate. Here are some helpful tips for homeowners to prepare their homes for inspection.

Clear All the Passages

There may be some hindrances in the passageways to some potential portions of the house like the basement, Electrical setup room, attics or more where the inspection officer may want to go. Constricted access to these areas may leave a suspicious impression on the inspector and he may start thinking that there is something wrong. It can compel him to deeply look into these areas.

Keep Your House Clean and Clutter-Free

Usually, after signing a contract, homeowners start feeling relaxed and don’t give attention to the cleanliness of the house and there can be a great mess built due to ignorance. Even the littered house is not a thing to affect the inspection results but still, it may force the inspector to consider that all other things in the house have not been properly taken care of.

Check Plumbing

It would be better if you check and identify all the plumbing related issues in your house prior to the inspection day. You may look for any leakages, dampening in the walls and floor, clogged drains and overflowing basins. It is better to resolve all such issues in time as these are included in the key issues for any house to be rejected for buying.

Electricity Performance

There may be a problem in the wires or sockets. There can be a burnt lug or a socket that is no longer in use or a light bulb that has long been not replaced after it was fused. Do not leave any single fixture or appliance that is not working because the inspector may think there is a problem in the wiring system and fixtures instead of the bulbs or any appliances itself.

Clean the Exterior

Home inspection majorly belongs to the interior of the house but he may still look around the exterior boundary of your house. That is why it would be better to remove all the hindering objects and leaves around the walls of your house for a smooth movement around it. You also need to look for any debris and clutter gathered on the roof because usually the homeowners are not visiting the roofs of their homes frequently but this is a must place for the inspector to visit and see the drainage pipe from the roof for rainwater.
