Dishwasher Maintenance

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 05 November 2019 11:21

A lot have the misconception that the dishwasher does not require any cleaning. If you are one of them, you are wrong. The utensils you wash leave a lot of dirt and grime on the dishwasher. You should be serious about your dishwasher maintenance because it can be a source of mold in your house. You do not need a lot of time to keep it clean. You can clean it in less than five minutes.

Dishwasher Maintenance

In this article, you will learn how to maintain and keep your dishwasher clean. These are simple hacks that you can do before leaving for work in the morning. Keep on reading.

Start by Emptying the Dishwasher

You need the appliance to be empty before you start to clean it as a basic tip. Pass it through a full cycle and then removing all items in it. It gives you easy access to every part of the dishwasher. You will see all the neglected parts and mark them for thorough cleaning.

Wash it Often

Do not assume that every time you wash your utensils, your dishwasher is cleaned in the process. In fact, more dirt is left on it. Make a schedule for cleaning it regularly. Give it a full cleaning routine, and you will never have a mold problem.

Deal with the Buildup Early

Utensils and the things you clean in the dishwasher leave residue. It will keep piling inside and on the edges of your appliance. If you let it stay for long without cleaning, you will run into a mess. Acid is the best solution to the buildup. You can go with lemon juice or white vinegar. The acid works by breaking down the residue and flushing it out. It is one secret to having a shining dishwasher.

Do Not Ignore the Rotating Arms

It is the rotating arms that make sure your items are cleaned thoroughly. When they are dirty, they will not rotate as expected. Buildups will clog the holes, and water to rinse utensils may not come out at the optimum pressure. As you clean the appliance, pay attention to the rotating parts too.

Check and Clean the Drain

At the bottom of the dishwasher is a drain. This is where the water goes out. A lot of debris and dirt will find a way to the bottom. Clogging will be a normal thing. Therefore, you should check the drain often and remove any buildup. Clean it thoroughly because this can turn out to be a germ-breeding zone. It is also prone to mildew and can create a sewage-like odor.

Remember the Exterior and the Edges

You may think that the only part that needs cleaning is the inside of the dish. The outside surface and edges will need cleaning too. Use the ordinary dishwashing detergent and a clean damp rag. Wipe them clean and rinse the rag in clean water for final wiping. Do this regularly to avoid the accumulation of dirt from spills.

Bottom Line

Dishwasher maintenance should be the last thing to give you cleaning headaches. Clean it regularly to remove dirt and any buildup and prevent having to repair or replace it through a professional. Empty it before cleaning to get access to every part. Do not forget the outside too.
