How to make a show home look more inviting

Posted On Tuesday, 20 September 2022 20:51

When it comes to selling a home, there are many different things you can do to secure a potential buyer. But if you aren’t appealing to the emotions, senses, and imaginations of the people who come by to take a look at the place, then you’re destined to keep missing out on what could be a fast and mutually beneficial sale.

Here are some of the most impactful ways of making a show home look more inviting.

Show off places for them to put their memories

Some will say that you should remove all personal belongings and keepsakes before showing a home. However, removing all personal items with the exception of one or two family pictures or happy memories can actually be a valuable asset to a sale.

Many modern homes will use metallic photo tiles to display their memories in a sharp and colourful format. So, if you can remove the clutter around the house but keep an image as clear as that as a focal point of a room, you’re drawing out the potential for them to create those same memories in this house, and placing the idea of them living here in their heads.

Consider the colour schemes

The colour of a home determines how welcome and how at ease visitors feel. Even if it’s purely on a subconscious level. The fact remains that colours dictate a lot of our mood without us realising it, but that leaves you with a dilemma, as many of us interpret different things from different colour variations.

In other words, stick to soft and subtle colours that won’t create too much of an emotional response in a potential buyer. Keep it inviting, but not too overpowering, and let the decor speak for itself.

Declutter and embrace minimalism

Selling the potential of a home means showing off the available space too. Chances are that anyone who chooses to buy the place will have their own specific style in mind when it comes to decorating, so don’t be afraid to get rid of the clutter and let others see what they’ll have to work with in this home.

Keep it to one focal point per room, and only the bare essentials on your shelves. It may sound counterintuitive, but they’re here to imagine themselves living here, not you!

Showcase the potential for comfort

All the renovating and decorating in the world can’t compete with the warmth and simplicity of a few well-placed cosy blankets and textiles. A few plump pillows on a soft sofa and a nice throw that exudes comfort will immediately draw a buyer’s eye and get them one step closer to picturing themselves bundled up on a nice evening and loving every minute of it!

Remember that you’re selling a home, but you’re also selling the idea of a home. The cosy lie-ins, the evenings nuzzled up on the sofa, the family and friends they’ll have over to celebrate their new home. And comfort plays a pivotal role in securing that final sale.
