Your Guide to a Hassle-Free Home Shifting

Posted On Thursday, 22 September 2022 20:36

Moving to a new home is undoubtedly exciting, but with the thrill come the inconveniences of packing up your belongings and doing so. There is then another choice to make: hire movers or do it yourself.

Today's millennials, who rent houses and move between the same city and other countries, are a prime example of this. Therefore, one must ensure that the moving and packing processes are stress-free and efficient.

Moving and packing up your home is not an easy undertaking. A hundred things can go wrong, and a hundred things must be taken care of. We all know how stressful the scenario can be, and the tension increases if you do it yourself.

A little preparation now will help avoid problems later. We have thus listed a few recommendations that will make moving day a breeze for you.

Things to do before you start packing

Start the procedure no later than ten days before your move. Get rid of clutter as soon as possible, so you have less to pack and move into your home.

You can get rid of any furniture that cannot be disassembled and will not fit through the doorways or into the rooms of your new home.

If you do this far in advance of your relocation, you may be able to sell it or locate someone to buy it from you rather than throwing it out immediately before moving day. Moreover, take images of the electrical equipment's wiring to document its operation.

Classify your items

Set aside at least one hour every day before the relocation to begin classifying objects by kind. By doing this, you'll save time when the packers and movers arrive by not having to explain to them anything that needs special care or that they shouldn't touch.

Keep the most expensive and critical goods close at hand. It applies to jewelry, computers, financial records, etc. It would be best if you handled these pricey and private objects independently. Either store them with trusted individuals, at a bank, or in a bag you constantly have with you.

Calculate your expenses

Ensure you acquire two or three quotes from moving firms suggested by friends or reliable consumer sites because professional moving costs might vary significantly. Also, make sure the business has a license and insurance.

Use an online calculator to get a ballpark estimate of the price of a professional relocation. Moreover, you can also go through customer reviews before finalizing your moving firm.

Start packing

Things that are not required every day should be packed well in advance. Label the boxes correctly, according to room, as you're packing, so you'll know what's inside.

Separately pack your necessities, such as medications, phone chargers, cups, plates, a kettle, food, a change of clothing, etc. Always bring your valuables, including bank documents, identification cards, birth certificates, credit cards, passports, jewelry, etc.

To protect appliances from impact, moisture, and static, especially during intercity moves, you may need to bundle them in many layers.

Packing advice

It will be simpler to unpack at your new house if you pack one room at a time. Some advice:

  • Carefully pack every item and keep each box padded within.
  • Label the boxes according to the rooms or items.
  • Keep boxes lightweight for easy movement.
  • Store all of your essentials in boxes labeled "essentials."

Ask the packers and movers to keep minor furniture pieces like nuts, bolts, screws, etc., in an airtight bag and tape it to the furniture to which it belongs.

Getting a competent fine art moving and storage service provider is advised because transporting your treasured possessions, irreplaceable keepsakes, and works of fine art is not a simple task.

Update the information

It's simple to become preoccupied with the relocation, but it's crucial to let friends, employers, and creditors know your new address.

It would help if you let your utilities and service providers know about your move to avoid service interruptions and past-due payments.

Get in touch with the local phone, cable, internet, energy, gas, and water companies. Plan for the utilities to be removed from your last house and reconnected by the time you move into your new home.

Settling at your new home

If you decide to unpack alone, be aware that setting up everything will take time. In this situation, prepare an overnight bag with everything you'll need for one or two days.

Get the new house you're moving into cleaned a day or two before the move, paying particular attention to the kitchen and bathroom. Please make an appointment with a carpenter or electrician in advance for the day you move into the new home so they can fix your electronics and furnishings.
