Construction Trends You Should be Familiar With

Technology and industry have always been strongly intertwined to that degree that very industry wouldn’t be possible without technology in the first place. It is only logical then for industry to follow guidelines and trends technology is setting up and construction industry is not different. If anything else, we can easily say that, due to strong dependence to offerings from tech world this link is even stronger than in some other businesses. So, let us try to examine how construction is being affected by latest technological developments and what trends are on the rise in its own backyard.

Strive for Efficiency

It’s not a secret that strive for sustainability and energy-efficiency in combination with overall rise of environmental awareness is making strong impact on businesses. While it is debatable how sincere are businesses’ efforts to truly find solution for some questions concerning these important topic, it is not debatable that this trend is here to stay and that we will continue to see it more and more throughout construction industry, most notably by using renewable energy in the construction process and by pushing sustainable construction solutions down the ladder to customers.

Paperless Construction

There are however other ways to be more “green” and environmentally friendly and lowering amount of paper involved in the process is one of them. But, changing paper for smart devices is not only byproduct of environmental awareness; it is also the more practical solution. Cloud computing and remote access software enabled editing and real-time sharing of documents possible on any device even in inaccessible areas such as construction sites, making printed documents obsolete. Take into consideration that smart devices will become even smarter as the time goes by, thus enabling us to deal with more complicated tasks, and you will see why this trend will remain relevant over the years.

Increased use of Drones

Drones and other UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) are becoming increasingly present and decreasingly expensive. So much so that today we can categorize them as glorified toys for tech-buffs more than anything else. UAVs can be, however, very useful in number of industrial duties and their capability of taking site photos in remote areas easier than it was possible ever before is of primary concern for the construction industry. So, instead of using more expensive and inappropriate solutions, such as satellite and helicopter photography, we will see drones replacing them as preferable option for making high-quality site photos.

3-D printing

Maybe developing buildings from 3-D printers sounds a bit like a stretch, but so did smartphones not so long ago. 3-D printing successfully passed its infant years and proved that this technology is actually useful rather than interesting concept that will never come to fruition. End limits of this technology are not yet clear but, as the times goes by, it will certainly be capable of taking more heavy duties and printing larger objects faster. As a matter of fact one Chinese company claims that it has already printed houses for 24 hours in 2014. Even if they were not completely convincing solution, we expect this trend to keep hanging and possibly change whole construction industry more drastically than any other technology in history.

 

In conclusion, we can only say that construction industry can expect some very interesting developments in near future. Current trends are planting seeds of drastic, tectonic movement that will inevitably come and possibly change the whole way we are looking at construction works. We are waiting for future developments with curiosity and impatience.
