What Is The Best Helmet for TIG Welding?

With so many helmets out there to choose from, it is hard to determine which one is the right one for you, the perfect fit for your needs. There are, however, certain helmets which stand out from the rest, having remarkable features which please most welders. In this article, we'll take a look at what makes a helmet suitable for TIG, and what the best welding helmet available for this type of welding is.

The most important thing to look for when shopping for a TIG helmet is sensitivity. You need to make sure the helmet darkens even at the low amperages usually used for this type of welding. Search for the lowest amperage you think you will use – for some people it's 10 or 20 amps, for others it might even be as low as 4 amps. 

Another great characteristic of a good helmet is versatility. You want to look for a helmet which can adapt to every individual job you have to complete – which means allowing you to set things like shade and delay time. Last but not least, having a large viewing area and a durable lens is vital for the quality of your welding.

Moving on from these technical details, is there really such a thing as a perfect helmet for TIG welding? But most importantly (given that we’re talking about TIG here), Speedglas 9100xx is sensitive to all amperages higher than 1A, which means that whatever job you have to do, with this helmet you’ll encounter no problems in doing it.

Moreover, this helmet brings the word „versatility” to a whole new level: pretty much everything about it is adjustable, from the way the headgear fits you to more complex things like delay.  Another extremely useful feature consists of the two exhaust vents which direct the air you exhale out of the helmet – this way you don’t suffocate from the extreme heat and the helmet doesn’t fog. And you don’t have to worry about recharging – the helmet works on two replaceable batteries which last approx 2000 hours.

Of course, all of these great features bring a not-so-great price with them; but if you want your welding to be top notch for years to come, it is most definitely a worthwhile investment.
