When to Install a Roof?

The best time to have a roof installation or replacement is when you plan ahead and therefore do not make any rash and rapid decisions. Whenever a home or building owner needs to replace or repair a roof, it can be difficult to schedule the work. Some important questions to ask include: Which is the best company? What time of year to do it? Is there a cheaper time of year?

 

The peak season for roofing work

Usually, late summer and throughout the months during fall are the busiest times. Arguably the main concern is keeping the roof dry, given that a heavy shower can see water quickly gaining entry into your property when work is being carried out on the roof.

A further issue is that of pricing. Because late summer and fall are the busiest times of the year for the majority of contractors, the suppliers of roofing products generally wait until just prior to this time to up their prices. What’s more, it’s the time of year that roofing companies and builders also tend to raise their prices. So you’ll pay top dollar for work that could be completed for a lesser fee at a different time.

And it’s for this reason that you’d be encouraged to aim to replace/ repair your roof through the spring and early summer months, and possibly even during the winter months.

 

Wintertime roof replacement

Among the advantages of wintertime roofing work is that a homeowner can choose from a wide selection of roofing companies to do the installation/ repair work. Obviously, this is the time that roofing contractors are least busy.

Do bear in mind, though, that new shingles must undergo a period for thermal sealing, and that can take several weeks when the temperatures are as low as 40 Fahrenheit. All the same, prices for roofing materials will prove to be cheaper during these months.

 

Summertime roof replacement

For roofing contractors, late summer is perhaps going to be the busiest time. A problem with the installation of shingles at this time of year is that they can more easily be damaged, given that nails slice through shingles very easily when temperatures are higher.

As stated, however, the best time of year for a roof replacement or major repair, and the time to get the best price in terms of finding highly reliable roofing contractors, is actually about planning forward. If you’re aware the the lifetime of your roof is nearing its end, you should schedule the work as early as you can. In fact, you may even wish to sign a contract, and by so doing, you’ll be assured of locking in current pricing, whereby there will be no increases in labor or materials.
