4 Questions to Ask Your Realtor When Buying A Home

Written by Posted On Thursday, 26 May 2016 15:57

When buying a new house, your Realtor will become your best friend. That agent is the one who shows you the houses for sale within your budget, informs you of open house events and even helps you put in an offer once you find a house that you like. Before choosing a new Realtor, take a look at some simple questions you should ask that agent.

How Do You Communicate with Buyers?

A great question to ask before choosing a Realtor is how that agent communicates with clients. Does this realtor use email, phone calls or a combination of both? You want someone who will keep you up to date on homes that work with your budget and wish list and homes for sale in your favorite neighborhoods. You also want someone who will stay in touch with you until you’ve signed all of the mortgage documents.

Where are the Hottest Markets?

The best Realtor is someone who is knowledgeable and informed about the local market. You don't want an agent who will give you the runaround. Always ask the agent about which markets are the hottest in the area. This lets you know which neighborhoods grew the fastest in recent years and which neighborhoods have a poor reputation. It also gives you an idea as to how much it will cost to buy a house in one of those markets.

What are the Fees and Charges?

The price that you pay for a new home includes more than just the price you saw in the listing. You are also responsible for paying miscellaneous fees relating to the closing costs and escrow. Buyers are usually responsible for the cost of a home inspection too. Your agent may recommend that you talk with a mortgage broker or lender like Premium Mortgage Corp about the costs and fees associated with your home loan.

What are Your Honest Thoughts?

Once you find a house that you really like, ask your agent for his or her honest thoughts about the house. Agents know that if they lie to customers just to make a sale that those customers will tell others about their experiences and damage their reputation and the reputation of their agency. Your Realtor should give you an honest assessment of both the house itself and the surrounding area.

Your agent will provide you with useful help during the home buying process. Always make sure to ask your Realtor questions about fees on your home and the top markets in your area.
