5 DIY Tips to Improve the Interior of Your Home

The design of your interior home is a reflection of your personality and taste. For many people, it can be easy to neglect the style of the setting, which can make it appear outdated over the years. If you're looking to improve the quality of your interior environment, there are a few easy DIY tips to follow.

1. Use Antique Pieces in the Bathroom

Dress up your bathroom with antique pieces that will add extra interest. You can add a product that matches the style of the home if you live in an older building to make it stay true to the period of the house. A pedestal tub will look classic and can work as the main focal point of the room. An old vanity that is installed and doubles as a sink will add extra charm and character to your home.

2. Add a Chalk Wall

Chalk walls are a fun addition that will add extra interest to your interior setting instead of using paint. Chalk walls can be used in a playroom where kids can draw, paint, and color without getting in trouble. Chalk walls look best as an accent wall to avoid making the room appear dark and overpowered by the chalk designs. You can also use a chalk wall near the kitchen where you can write down recipes or the dinner menu for the week. You can even paint a portion of the walk with chalk and frame it to make it look like an accent piece that doesn't cover the entire wall.

3. Create Open Shelving

Although cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms were once extremely common, more people are opting for open shelving. Open shelves that hold toiletries or dishes are a popular trend that creates a light and airy style in the home. It's a great way to put your beautiful plates or glass jars on display and make them easy to access.

You can create open shelving by measuring the width of the shelves that you'll need and transferring the measurements to MDF or a five quarter board. Use a chop saw to make the cuts and angle the bottom edges to make it look finished. Install ledgers on the wall of your kitchen or bathroom and attach the shelves with angle braces. Consider using raw or reclaimed wood to make the setting appear hip and modern.

4. Use Decals

Decals are a fun and creative way of dressing up your walls with a temporary product that is easy to take on and off. Decals can be used to add extra detail on bare walls of a children's bedroom or a nursery. Consider adding small triangle decals or crosses that are unisex and will work well for different styles or rooms. Each decal should measure five inches apart to make the decals look spaced out but still bold. Decals can also be used in a small bathroom or on an accent wall of a bedroom when you want to make a statement.

5. Install Visually Appealing Doors

The doors that you use in your home should stand out for their design and blend in well with the style of the interior setting. Consider adding barn doors if you want a rustic setting that has character and will create a cozy environment. Glass doors are also ideal for a playroom when you want to keep a close eye on your children but still separate the room from the rest of the home.

Use Dutch doors if you want to make a statement with a unique feature that is divided horizontally. The style of door dates back to the 17th century and will allow you to continue having a bit of privacy whether the top door is kept open or closed during the day.
