Choosing a colour for your front door can be a difficult decision to make but one that can completely alter the appearance of your entrance.

To help with your decision, architect and property expert George Clarke has recently revealed the most popular door colours for 2017, based on purchasing habits since the start of the year.

The ambassador for composite door company Truedor says you can stay on trend by selecting from one of the following colours:

Traditional shades:

  • Jet black
  • Steel blue
  • Pine green
  • Crisp white

Vivid shades:

  • Bright yellow
  • Cobalt blue
  • Purple

Pretty pastels:

  • Primrose yellow
  • Duck egg blue
  • Light violet

Mr Clarke is quoted as saying:

“Your front door is the face of your home - it's the first thing people see, so don't follow the crowd, design your own and really go to town,' says George. 'With your front door you have more freedom to express yourself, perhaps picking a colour that you wouldn't normally choose for your interior walls. Changing the front door is a quick win but a real game changer in terms of how people perceive you and your home.”

On top of that, George Clarke has given five tips for enhancing your front door’s appeal:

1. Creative colour

For those feeling brave, go for strong, bright colours but stick to a shade that complements your own personal style as well as your house. Black and darker shades of blue are safe choices for those who aren’t so adventurous.

2. Clean lines

Keeping the front of the house symmetrical and simple is always a good idea. An equal number of plants positioned on each side of the entrance is worth your consideration, whilst any outdoor lighting generally looks better in pairs.

3. Flower power

Stylish hanging baskets, planters and window boxes can really lift the entrance to your home. Flowers and shrubs can often complement the colour and style of the front door as well.

4. Keep it clutter-free

Doors, pathways, steps and open porches should be kept free from dirt, leaves and other pieces of debris. Likewise, if you have a doormat, keep that clean so that it looks appealing.

5. The details make the difference

High quality door accessories are a good investment. Anything from letterboxes, doorknobs and knockers, but try to choose door furniture that suits the style and age of your property.
