THE ADVANTAGES PROVIDED BY WICKER FURNITURE

Wicker furniture is one of the most popular styles of outdoor furniture available, but why? What makes this furniture any better than wooden or metal? This article explores some of the many advantages that this type of furniture boasts.

DURABILITY

Wicker is the term given to the weaving process that creates this furniture, rather than the material used. Most modern wicker chairs and tables are not made with natural plants anymore, but rather a more durable synthetic material. This doesn’t react to weather conditions such as moisture in the air or excessive heat. Tightly woven and well made wicker furniture is designed to endure almost all conditions, so you can be sure the materials won’t break down or fall apart in a short space of time. The wicker is also immune to the problems of metal, such as rusting, as well as the issues that come with wooden furniture, including mildew and rotting over a long period of time.

LIGHTWEIGHT

Wicker furniture makes use of lightweight frames for the synthetic resin using materials such as aluminium. Aluminium is durable – like the wicker that covers it – and is also incredibly light. These two materials combine to make furniture that is easy to transport while remaining surprisingly sturdy. The portability of it means you don’t have to settle on a single design for your outdoor furniture – you’ll have the flexibility to move things around as required to entertain more people or create a new focal point.

Unlike plastic or purely aluminium chairs and tables, wicker furniture has enough weight to remain resistant to wind, meaning it can be left outdoors with no additional weights to keep it in place.

COMFORT

While just as solid as wooden furniture, wicker furniture is more comfortable. The flexibility of the material means you won’t have corners or edges digging into your legs when you sit for an extended period of time. Adding cushions only makes this furniture more comfortable, putting it a step ahead of other types of outdoor furniture.

The materials used in natural wicker furniture are known to snap or break over time and leave the owner with the equivalent of sticks poking their legs. However, well made furniture with high-quality materials won’t do this. With good care, these synthetic materials will stay together for many years and are unlikely to fray, split or go rough with age.

APPEARANCE

Wicker has a natural appearance that suits outdoor areas perfectly. The style has character and texture that isn’t apparent in other materials. Adding different coloured cushions or choosing a specific colour of wicker can also add a personalized touch to chairs and lounges.

Maintain this great appearance by avoiding direct sunlight where possible. Colours can fade, even on weather-proof cushions. Keep dust and other messes off the wicker by simply wiping it down with a damp cloth.

While it may not be for everyone, wicker furniture has a lot of advantages over other styles of outdoor furniture. More durable than aluminium and more lightweight and comfortable than wood, wicker is an attractive option for outdoor furniture of all types.
