What Causes My Refrigerator to Leak Water?

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 25 October 2017 01:56

Seeing pools of water on the kitchen floor in the morning can ruin your whole day. Before you start cleaning up, it is best to trace where the leak came from. More often, leaks may come from the dishwasher or sink but those puddles of water may come from your refrigerator.
Before you call the experts, you can check your fridge to determine the cause of the leak:
1. Defrost Drain. This may be congested by food particles or ice. This blockage can cause water to accumulate and build up causing the water to leak out of the refrigerator.
2. Water Filter. If not correctly installed or when seals are cracked, this can cause water to run down.
3. Ice Maker. Loose or broken seals in the ice maker can make water end up pooled under the refrigerator.
If any of these is at fault, parts replacement may be necessary which may require the help of a professional appliance service technician.
