What to Do When Photo Eye of Your Garage Door Is out of Alignment

Written by Posted On Thursday, 26 October 2017 02:24

The sensor of your residential garage door has a photo eye that can help you open and close the door safely. More than that, it can prevent your overhead garage door to close when something is underneath it. But because of frequent use, this component may fail to emit correct signals and would need re-alignment or fixing.
1. Disconnect the power. It is better if you turn off the circuit breaker.
2. Loosen the screws of your garage door sensors.
3. Slide the sensor as low as possible making sure that the brackets are still screwed.
4. Using a string, connect one end of the sensor to it making it run across the center to connect to the opposite sensor.
5. Use a level to check if the line of the string is level. If one or both of these isn’t, adjust by sliding the brackets upward. Adjust accordingly.
6. Tighten the screws to secure the new position of the photo eye.
7. Visually check if the string is still level after tightening the screws.
8. Complete the alignment by removing the string and turning the power on again.

Following these steps can restore your garage door photo eye in its tiptop working order.
