Reasons Why a Garage Door Won't Close All the Way

Written by Posted On Sunday, 12 November 2017 01:36

Garage doors have something called safety sensors. The sensors will stop the heavy garage door when something or someone is on the way. Sometimes, these sensors can become defective that is why the garage door may not close all the way.
There is one sensor on each side of the garage door and both should be lit. If one of the sensors is off or is blinking, it means that the two sensors are not aligned. You can push it against the metal bracket that is holding it or you can loosen a knob to realign it. After doing the procedure, check if the lights stay on to make sure that they are aligned.
One thing you can also do is regularly clean the sensor lens. Pollen, water and dust can settle on the sensor. The vibrations from frequently opening and closing the door can also affect the sensors and throw them off. You can put braces on the tracks to minimize the vibrations. You can also tighten the adjustment screws of the sensors.
