What Happens When My Overhead Garage Door Cable is Frayed?

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 28 November 2017 00:36

The cables, rollers, pulleys, and springs are responsible for doing all the lifting when opening and closing your garage door. When a cable is frayed, the following things can happen:
• Your door is unbalanced or slanted
• Your door smashes frequently, or will smash once and/or never open after that
• It does not close or open completely
• It will not move at all
Replacing the frayed cable is fairly doable because it is easily visible and accessible. For most models of garage doors, the cables and cable drums are located where the torsion tube and springs are.
You can purchase a replacement cable from a store, but you have to make sure to get the exact length and width of the cable to fit your door. If you are unsure about doing this yourself, call your trusted garage door repair company for their services.
