What to Do if Garage Door Does Not Open Smoothly

Written by Posted On Tuesday, 28 November 2017 01:11

Residential garage doors get extreme cases of wear and tear because of friction and constant use throughout the year. A common issue resulting from friction and continual usage is when your door stops opening or closing smoothly, and sometimes it can even produce loud, squeaky noises in the process. When this happens, take the following steps:
1. Look for rust. Most parts of garage doors are made of metal, and accumulated moisture and other factors may contribute to rust, and consequently to the noisy and rough operation of your door.
2. Tighten parts with a wrench. Sometimes, all it takes is tightening a loose hinge or a few bolts.
3. Check the pulleys and rollers. These are two of the components that are directly in charge of opening and closing your door. Try to find defects or signs or wearing.
If the noise and jaggedness continues, it is wiser to rely on an expert. It is also best to make it a habit to call a garage door service provider for maintenance.
