What to Check on Your Monthly Garage Door Maintenance

Garage door maintenance fees can be notoriously expensive. Although the experts do give an unparalleled level of assurance, they are not as frequently present as we want them to.
In the cases you cannot call or afford professional garage door service, it is always a good idea to know what to do and which parts of the garage door to check at least monthly:
• Close the garage door and visually inspect the springs, cables, rollers, and pulleys. Also check the latches and hinges.
• See if the door is balanced. If you have an automated opener installed, remove it from power first and manually open and close the door yourself to see its balance.
• Test the auto-reverse function. Garage doors manufactured after 1993 should have this installed.
• Check the alignment of photo eyes on your opener. These are essential for stopping the door from closing if it detects an object in the way of the door. If it is malfunctioning in any way, consult a professional.
