DIY Garage Door Maintenance: Visual Inspection

Written by Posted On Wednesday, 06 December 2017 00:09

Knowing how to do a quick, but detailed visual inspection of your garage door saves you from a lot of costly garage door services. Here are some of the things that you should pay attention to when conducting an inspection on your door:
• Springs. Torsion springs are directly in charge of lifting the heavy door. Check this part for rusts or dust.
• Rollers, pulleys, and cables. These wear out easily because of constant friction.
• Tracks. If your door is starting to make squeaking sounds or move slowly, your tracks most likely need lubrication.
• Balance. See if your door is uneven or slanted. Open and close manually and automatically to see the level.
• Cleaning. Garage door lubricants can be bought from hardware stores. For cleaning purposes, on the other hand, it is recommended to use white vinegar and simple anti-grease dishwashing soap. For repainting, use zinc-chromate primer first.
If you notice anything off on your door, call a professional right away.
