What to Do When a Garage Door Window Breaks

Written by Posted On Thursday, 21 December 2017 00:36

When one of your garage door window breaks, you need to replace it immediately for it could be a risk in the security of your home. When replacing your glass window, you have to know what type of window your garage door has. There are two types, the screw together design and the snap together design.

The screw together is not difficult to deal with. From the inside of the frame, you can just simply remove the screws. When the inside portion comes off, you can remove the glass that is in between the inside portion and front portion. You can put the new glass and screw the inside portion again.

The snap together is a little more tough to do. You should lay the window section flat on the floor. Use a razor knife to cut the frame at the back. You have to cut through all four sides. Remove the broken glass and replace it with the new one. The back portion will need to be replaced as well. The new frame will snap together. The tricky part is you have to use a hammer to snap the four pieces onto the back to lock them in place.
