Collingwood has a great warmth and sense of hospitality that is evident to first-time tourists, as well as repeat visitors. A community rich in history and culture, the town was the first municipality in Canada to have a Heritage Conservation District included on the prestigious list of Canada’s Historic Places.

Nestled on Nottawasaga Bay at the southern shore of vast Georgian Bay, Collingwood is a four-season gateway to Blue Mountain and its ski resort, downhill and cross-country trails, golf, sailing and water sports.

Where to eat

There’s no shortage of dining locales. The Northwinds Brewhouseand Beaver & Bulldog are fun pubs. Brunello has great Italian. The Iron Skillet and The Smoke serve hearty fare. Pie Wood is a terrific pizzeria. Try Mexican at the Bent Taco. Sample local craft beers at the Side Launch Brewing Company.

Where to go

Shop for art at Tremont Studios, Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts and the Alexander Gallery. Gifts are aplenty at Al Ferri & Sons, Butter Art & Gift and Mad Dog’s Coffee & Vinyl Cafe. Elephant Thoughts and the Collingwood Farmers’ Market are family fun stops. So too is the Collingwood Museum with its myriad of historical artifacts and displays.

Bring your golf clubs and test your game at the Cranberry Golf Resort and the Atoka, Monterra and OslerBrook golf courses.

Try a tour by boat, bike or on an off-road ATV at Extreme Adventures. Be entertained by professional productions at Theatre Collingwood or spoil yourself at one of a dozen spas, including MS.tique European, Pamper Me, Beatrix and Living Shore.

If you like to shake, rattle and roll, visit during July 28-30 for the world’s largest Elvis Festival, a fabled annual event.

Bring your camera and capture nature at its best at Sunset Point Park and at the Nottawasaga Island Lighthouse. Insider’s tip: A bike ride on the Georgian Trail is an amazing and exhilarating experience. The trail is packed gravel with no elevation changes. Cycle 23 kilometres to Thornbury, have lunch and head back to Collingwood. For a shorter walk or ride, try the Harbourview Park boardwalk trail and labyrinth. It's a treat when the tulips are blooming.
