There is little question that granite is the hottest material in terms of kitchen countertops. Granite is one of the hardest natural materials and looks stunning in your kitchen, which is why it’s so popular. However, granite is not as perfect as its advertising for a few reasons.

Granite is quite heavy, perhaps too heavy to be supported in your kitchen without extensive work. Plus, granite is porous, which means that if you do not wipe up that spill quickly, it will leave behind a stain. Add to it the expense and you can understand why many people are looking for suitable alternatives to installing a granite countertop in their kitchens. Here are just a few alternatives that you can explore.

Marble

Most people think of marble as the next best thing behind granite and for good reason. It is cheaper than granite and look gorgeous in the kitchen or anywhere in the home. However, the downside is that marble is softer and more porous than granite which means you’ll be cleaning it regularly to keep its remarkable appearance. Be prepared to clean your marble countertop regularly if you choose this material.

Butcher Block

This is a tough, durable material that is a fraction of the cost compared to granite or even marble. It also has a warm glow that works well in most kitchens. It’s tough and durable, lasting for many years with the right cleaning and maintenance. However, it can stain, and you cannot set hot pots on the surface with burning, so choose this material carefully.

Engineer Stone

Cesarstone and Silestone are created from small bits of quartz that are mixed together and molded into the shape of a countertop. The result is a material that looks like stone, is highly durable, and easier to maintain that most other countertop surfaces while not costing quite as much as granite. It has a spartan appearance, being available in either white or black and no veining options. However, it is quite expensive regardless and may be too much for many budgets.

Soapstone

Soapstone has a very attractive appearance, providing an older feel to the kitchen. It’s also far easier to maintain than marble, even if it’s not quite as easy to maintain as granite. Soapstone is also far cheaper and may be perfect for some kitchens if you enjoy the old-world look that they provide.

Countertop Resurfacing

Instead of purchasing a new material for your countertop, why not resurface the old one with Miracle Method? The famous Miracle Method resurfacing  means that your old kitchen countertop will look like new and be more resilient to staining. Plus, the resurfacing effort will cost a fraction compared to purchasing a granite countertop and take a fraction of the time to complete.

For those who are on a budget or who do not want the hassle of installing a granite countertop, the Miracle Method is right for you. Call your local Miracle Method contractor and see what they can do for your kitchen countertop.
