Learning real estate as quickly as possible

As someone who is one of the leading agents in New Jersey, I find the basics of real estate a bit dull. I have been there and done that after a successful 16 year long career in the industry. I am CEO if my own brokerage, and have my own team within that brokerage. Currently our team is number one in one of the most expensive places to live in the United States and I couldn't be more proud. One of my more recent hires has been asking me a ton of questions on how they can quickly figure out the world of real estate. This is the advice I gave them on the quickest way to learn in real estate. My current focus and passion is on my team. The Michelle Pais Group we are the leading team in our county, and soon the entire state so I feel qualified to talk to real estate rookies. This is the best advice I can give you.

There is a ton of information online

When I first got started in real estate there was no such thing as online communities. Communities will catapult your knowledge 10x what it currently is. No matter what facet of real estate you want to get in there is some sort of information written online about it, if not then you can always pick up the phone and talk to a realtor. Realtors want to talk and help anyone who seems like a potential client. They are the most valuable tool to use when you are learning about the industry.

For all of the rookies looking to learn more in real estate. I would really recommend the following blogs and online resources.

  1. Bigger Pockets

  2. Forbes Real Estate

  3. https://www.inman.com/

  4. https://www.zillow.com/blog/

  5. https://investfourmore.com/blog/

These blogs should give you enough resources to learn more than you already know, or pick up something new at the very least. People in real estate are typically self-employed. You need to constantly learn if you want to get ahead in this business.

Youtube is your best friend

Youtube is a game changer. I know of people who are making careers off of just learning on youtube. If you are not learning real estate by reading, or doing you should be watching or listening to youtube videos or podcasts. If there are people that can learn entirely new skills and switch careers through learning on youtube you can do the same. If you are a more visually inclined person you might want to check out the following real estate people on youtube.

  1. Meet Kevin - https://www.youtube.com/user/KevinPaffrath

  2. Graham Stephan - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV6KDgJskWaEckne5aPA0aQ

  3. Bryan Casella - https://www.youtube.com/user/BryanArgentina

  4. Grant Cardone - https://www.youtube.com/user/GrantCardone

Even I have my own youtube channel.

Learning by doing

Learning by doing is probably the best and quickest way to learn in real estate. Go out there and talk to people, as questions arise figure them out. Dealing with clients rebuttals will only help you in the long run. Real estate is a very social business to be in. Talking to your potential clients is not only a great way to learn, but you might even find yourself with a listing at the end of your conversation.

If I was a total rookie who had clients that were on the fence of listing with such a new agent I would recommend either of the following rebuttals. “As a new agent, you will be my primary client” This is the right answer almost all of the time. If the client persists that they do not want a new agent selling their home you need to adapt quickly. As a new realtor, I would presume that you have at least one friend who is a much more experienced realtor.
The other rebuttal that you have in this situation is something along the lines of “ I can get a more experienced agent to co-list the property with me.” The more you talk to clients the more of an expert you can be or appear as.

In general, the quickest way to learn in real estate is to let it consume your life. From the time you wake up until the time you are sleeping you should be either reading, listening, or doing.
