How to Mow Your Overgrown Lawn

Written by Posted On Monday, 07 January 2019 07:56

The day has ended, you have clocked out from work and you are finally headed home to enjoy the weekend. On the way you drive through various neighborhoods, you admire the well kept yards guarded by bright plaster gnomes. You pull up in your driveway and look over. What was once your lawn, has become a field of wild pasture. Your urge to delve into lawn management is surpassed by your need to relax after a long, hard week. You do not want to waste a full weekend doing nothing but yard work.

Many of us have been here. I want to tell you something though: Lawn care does not have to be as time consuming as you think! There is a simple way to bring back that lawn to its' formal glory, and once again worthy of being monitored by your own plaster gnome.

The most important thing you can do before taking on the project of your personal wild pastures, so that you may return this overgrown jungle to a state of residential bliss is to get a good night's sleep. There is no need to come home and trade those office loafers for work boots and jump right into it. Take this evening to relax so you are ready to conquer the task with the zealous ambition of any jungle explorer.

Now after a good night rest, it is time to get the energy flowing. Have a protein packed breakfast, some fresh fruit and a hot, steaming cup of joe. Heck, make it three cups! You deserve it, it is a jungle out there!

You have had your breakfast, you are geared to go with an overload of caffeine and now it is time to don the proper attire. Go to the back of the closet and pull out that discount store crocodile tooth hat you wore in the eighties. Since it has probably been a while since you have seen the light of day, grab those large mirrored sunglasses out of the same box. Slip into your most comfortable pair of jeans, paired with your best manly tee shirt you can find. The one with a game controller iron-on, is not it. Go with the one your third grader gave you that says "World's Best Dad", it is much more appropriate. If you really want to top off the look, you could tie a machete to your waistband. Of course nobody has a machete just laying around, so go raid the kids toy chest and hi-jack one of their foam pirate swords. Trust that it will make you look much more commanding.

Okay, now you are fueled up and you have the perfect attire for conquering that dense forest of tangled vegetation. You stand tall as you push the button of the garage door opener. Your chest swells as the shiny red gleam of the lawn mower, you have yet to use, is revealed in all its glory! This is the day. This is YOUR day!

As you pour the gasoline into the tank, the smell of its vapors is a reminder that you are about to make those neighbors across the street green with lawn envy. You can feel the excitement build. You raise the level of the mower, knowing that it will take more than one pass to complete the job. In fact; it will probably take three. You push the primer button a few times, then once more just to be sure you are good. With all your might you pull that cord to start the engine.

Nothing happens. Again, you pull the cord. Suddenly you feel a sharp pain run down your arm. It is just that you haven't used that muscle in a while. You can do this. You pull it again... and like trumpets from heaven you hear the roar of the lawn mower!

You start taking strikes through the land of overgrown tropics. Sweat is beading off your forehead. Your hands are gripping tightly the vibrating handle and you want to give up. Just then, a truck with a trailer pulls up to your curb and a gentleman walks towards you. You release the handle to see if you can be of assistance to him, he might be lost.

Forty-five minutes later, you are standing in the middle of one of the most well cut yards for miles. Your chest swells and you release the foam pirate sword from it's sheath and hold it in the air. Victory is yours! Your wife steps outside and comments on how wonderful the yard looks. You walk over, wrap your arm around her shoulder, and let her know... your yard service is scheduled every other Thursday going forward.
