4 Tips for Non-Toxic House Cleaning

Written by Posted On Thursday, 21 February 2019 17:35

Have you ever paid attention to the chemicals that are in most household cleaning products? I never gave much thought to it until I had kids in the house. Once I became a parent, suddenly I was much more concerned about the number of chemicals that my family was being exposed to on a regular basis.

Once I decided it was important and worth making some changes, I started to research the options. Fortunately, there are some relatively easy and inexpensive ways to clean without the chemicals. Actually, in some cases you can even get better results with the natural version.

Let's take a look at a few tips that you can put into practice right away.

1. Use All-Natural, Non-Toxic Cleaning Products

There are a number of natural cleaning products available. However, just because something is promoted as being green or a safer alternative, don't assume it is completely natural. Some of these types of products still have a lot of chemicals and are only marginally better than the chemical-filled alternatives.

A few that I use and recommend are Fit Organic laundry detergent, and Everyone soap. You can buy both easily at stores/websites like Walmart and Amazon.

2. Make Your Own Natural Cleaning Solutions

You might be amazed at how much you can clean with vinegar and baking soda. There are also some other natural cleaning options using ingredients that you may already have in your house. If you do a search on Pinterest for natural cleaning solutions you'll find an abundance of options.

3. Clean with a High-Quality Microfiber Cloth

With the help of a quality microfiber cloth you can clean many surfaces in your home with just water. That's right. No cleaning products at all! It's ok to be skeptical, I was at first too. But after trying it and using this cleaning approach for a few years, I can tell you from experience that products like the Norwex and e-cloth brand cleaning cloths work extremely well.

This is probably the best way to reduce chemicals in your home because you can immediately eliminate the need for several different cleaning products. As an added bonus, you'll save money by cleaning with just water.

Norwex and e-cloth also make many other products for natural cleaning, like window cloths, mops, dusters, and more.

4. Purify the Air

An easy way to make your home a little bit healthier is to purify the air that you breathe. There are a few products that you can use for this. Himalayan salt lamps are effective and affordable. Essential oils can also be used. The best essential oil diffuser will allow you to run it in intervals, automatically turning on and off at set times. Running it intermittently is better than running it constantly.

With the help of these simple tips you can make your home healthier for your entire family.
