Spring Renovations: 4 Ways to Improve Your Home Once the Ice Melts

Written by Posted On Friday, 29 March 2019 11:54

With the arrival of warmer weather, homeowners are eager to tackle home improvement projects that will enhance their property value. While projects to be completed depend on individual factors like time and money, there is much that you can do for immediate improvements.

Repair Outdoor Fixtures

Spring is the perfect time to inspect your home’s external features. Outdoor lighting on the garage or shed can be repaired, if needed. Lamp posts that are peeling or tilting should be corrected to look their best. Handrails and walkways might need attention to ensure ongoing safety. Check fencing and gates for broken slats or latches.

Groom the Lawn

Seeding the lawn according to your regional growing season will keep your grass green and healthy during the summer. This is the time to reseed bald patches in your yard so that the entire lawn will look uniform. Clear last year’s flower beds of fall leaves and winter debris to receive new seedlings, and prune shrubs or trees that need it.

Check the Roof

With the snow and ice gone, explore the dry roof surface for signs of broken tile or damaged sections due to seasonal rough weather. The chimney cap should be replaced if it is broken to the extent of allowing insects and pests into your home. Look at the downspouts to make sure all the pieces are connected and working properly. If there are leaks, fix them before the springtime rains come along to worsen the damage.

Update the Patio or Porch

An outside patio or porch may need to be repainted or power washed. Deteriorated floorboards should be replaced. Look for insect nests and safely remove them. A fresh coat of paint can do wonders to improve the overall appearance and enjoyment of these fun outside areas for family living. Patio or porch furniture could likely benefit from a fresh scrubbing or coat of paint. New light fixtures might contribute to the overall improved look.

It is amazing what a short amount of time invested in your property can do to make the place more attractive and functional. Adding basic metal roofing to a shed can create a new look and protect outdoor storage. Adding a garden fence or washing the outside of the windows often makes a big difference. Set aside some time to give your property some love and it will repay you with a rejuvenated appearance for leisure time and fun activities.
