Why Is Real Estate Branding So Important

No matter if you’re new to the real estate business, if you’re a local expert trusted by the whole nearby community or if you’re the industry’s biggest fish, branding should be a topic of your interest. For multiple reasons.

What is branding?

First things first. What is branding? Although the concept seems known by everyone, the correct terminology often gets used incorrectly. So, let’s explain for clarity. While a brand is your client’s perception of your real estate business, branding is the action and practice of shaping that perception. You can influence it with a variety of tangible items such as your logo design, brand identity design, web design, etc.

Why would you work on it? Partly to differentiate yourself from the competition. Imagine all real estate agents in California being visually different only by their name… All the banners, ads, logos, etc. would feature black Times New Roman letters on white backgrounds. No one wants that. If there were two agents with the same surname, it would be impossible, by looking at their logo, to say who is who. So, since you need to work on it anyway, make sure your designs are damn good!

What should the branding show?

The better the branding, the higher are your chances of getting a call from a new client. However, better doesn’t mean prettier, bigger or with a louder message. Better means that is stands out from the rest, catches the passer-by's eyes and conveys the right message to the target audience. Assuming you want to look professional and be an expert agent, your branding will need to show professionalism and expertise. You may have the prettiest logo out there but if you make it in pink, potential clients will be confused about what business you’re in as the color isn’t representative for the estate industry.

First impressions count the most. Your potential client may be new to the city and looking for a place to rent/buy. He will look for a realtor. Let’s say he or she saw logos of 5 real estate agents. Within the first half a second, he will decide which one to call first. Most probably, he will go for the one that looked most visually appealing. It’s not a superficial judgment but an unconscious evaluation of your services. Clients will think that you aren’t professional if you don’t make your website professional. Simple as that.
