How To Make Your House Smell Good and Clean

Written by Posted On Monday, 16 September 2019 16:17

Don't you just love walking into a room that smells amazing? Oh, how it makes you feel good inside.

But wouldn't it be great if your home smells that wonderful too?

A tidy room is nice, but a tidy room that smells fresh and clean is a thousand times better. Pleasant odors circulating can brighten up the day and make the space feel a tad cozier.

There are plenty of ways to keep a home that does not only look good but smells good too. And it's pretty easy to do!

These ideas will have your home looking clean and smelling delightful in no time at all!

1. Clean with hydrogen peroxide.

That bottle of hydrogen peroxide in your first aid kid has a myriad of other uses, so you better take it out of there.

For one, hydrogen peroxide is actually better than bleach for cleaning toilets and removing molds. Because of its natural bleaching ability, hydrogen peroxide cleaning is very effective in eliminating marble stains, cleaning up sinks, and treating bathroom tiles!

If you have pets, and they're making your home smell terrible at times, applying baking soda and hydrogen peroxide on problem spots will deodorize them. Just be careful with using it on carpets and textiles because the bleaching potential might cause some discoloration.

2. Get rid of garbage disposal odors.

That garbage disposal in your kitchen could be making your home smell foul, and you don't even realize it! Over time, food and grime can build up inside and seep through your kitchen space.

To prevent your garbage disposal from wreaking havoc in your home, dump some baking soda and vinegar on it and let it run. You can also use lemons and other citrus fruits, if you like. The acid in these fruits can kill odor-causing bacteria.

3. Place candles in different areas of your home.

Scented candles have this soothing effect that makes you feel at peace. Maybe that’s why their smell is often hard to resist.

But while putting candles on tabletops and shelves is an excellent way of maximizing their decorative potential, keeping some of them inside linen closets or wherever there are fabrics to absorb their scent is a brilliant way to utilize their fragrance . The aroma will eventually stick to the fabrics,  and they’re going to smell sweet when you use them.

If candles in your home don't seem like a good idea because you have toddlers and pets running around, make use of candle warmers. They are less of a safety concern; plus, they tend to retain the scent longer because the wax is heated instead of burnt.

4. You can never go wrong with potted plants and flowers.

This may seem cliché, but is there a better way of bringing natural scents into your home than this? There’s nothing like the smell of fresh flowers in the morning, and they’re a sight to behold too!

Moreover, potted plants purify the air and liven up the area. Consider putting plants in different parts of the house, not just the living room – in the bathroom, kitchen, and even your bedroom. You’ll sense their calming effect wherever you place them.

5. Fill the air with the scent of essential oils.

Essential oils are the rage these days, and it only takes a sniff to understand why. A lot of people swear by the mood-lifting qualities of these oils. They make the house feel more like home too.

It’s also super convenient how you can simply pick an oil depending on what kind of mood you feel like creating. It could be orange essential oils in the morning for an invigorating and refreshing day, and then lavender at night for a calm and restful sleep.

When your home smells nice, you don’t have to spend on new furniture or rearrange the space to make your it feel more inviting. Often, all it takes is a welcoming scent.
