Renovating your home may be a dream come true. You’re just thinking about all the awesome updated features you’re going to have alongside the new design that you love. However, once you get into the renovation process, you’ll be burdened with the task of material management. Knowing how and when to have materials delivered can make all the difference in how smooth your renovation goes.

Make a Schedule

The first step in any renovation project is to have a scheduled outline of what you’re going to be doing. Start with the demolition phase and work your way up through the ending steps. This will allow you to easily identify when you’re going to be needing specific materials to do a job.

Assess Necessary Lead time

It’s important to note that ordering materials doesn’t always mean they’ll be here the next day. While there is nationwide white glove delivery service that you have access to via many of the major retailers, you don’t know if the product will be ready to be delivered. In some cases, you may need to leave three to four weeks of lead time for the product to be constructed. Do yourself a favor and go through your schedule. See what items are naturally in stock and what items will require lead time to construct.

Determine Storage Areas

While it would be nice if everything got delivered as we needed to use it, that’s not always the case. Having some areas in your home devoted to the storage of materials is a necessity. Places like the garage or a room on the same floor level as you’re working on can be great options. By determining these extra storage areas ahead of time, you can easily stow away items that you’re not ready to use with ease.

Consider Shipping to Store First

Many of the major home improvement retailers offer free shipping to their stores. They’ll actually hold onto your materials for about a month. When it comes time to utilize those materials, you can simply instruct the store to ship them to your home. This way, you can be ensured that your materials are ready when you need to use them.

Renovating your home can be a big undertaking. There are many different ways you can manage the delivery of materials to your home. The above four are some great methods that will get you started in the direction of better managing your home renovation project.
