Tips to Upgrade Your Garage in 2020

After the New Year celebrations and the Christmas season are over for many of us, we turn our attention to the traditional New Year's resolution.

Many of us see New Year's resolutions as pain. Others welcome the opportunity and challenge to improve by using the New Year as a motivator for personal growth and improvement.

Getting in shape, eating better, learning new skills and doing more volunteering are popular New Year's resolutions. Organizing your home is another important point. So why not start with the garage?

Declutter

Our first strategies suggestion for improving the garage is simple, but it can take time. If you get rid of all this unnecessary garbage, you can more easily evaluate your garage space and determine what kind of storage systems and improvements are actually needed.

Create space

If you need space to organize items, the garage is a good place to start. There are a variety of storage systems that allow you to lift your things off the floor and give practically everything a space of its own.

Pick from moving shelving systems, cabinet parts, variations of hook-and-hanger, platforms which can be lowered from the ceiling with pulleys and much more.

Start your search at your local hardware store. When you are done, you should have enough space for all your things and your car.

Upgrade the garage floor

If you only choose one of these strategies to improve the garage, you should do a floor improvement. An attractive garage floor affects the room more than you might think.

This type of upgrade is achieved by adding a floor covering to protect the concrete and to give a clean, uniform look to your garage floor.

Find ways to make your garage more functional

Each of the above strategies to improve the garage will make a big difference in the appearance and functioning of your garage. However, you can push things further.

If you haven't got a garage door opener or if your current opener is outdated, you should seriously consider upgrading. Modern garage doors and openers are quieter and more reliable than the models of the past. Many models also have practical functions such as MyQ technology, with which you can monitor and control your garage door from anywhere using a smartphone.

Another way to make your garage more useful is to increase the space you need to park. There are many good reasons to park in a garage, and a car lift makes it possible.

Improve the look and appeal

Our garage improvement strategies have so far focused on your garage interior. What about the outside? In view of the significant profile of your garage doors on the outside of your house, it makes sense to evaluate them as well.

Your curb appeal will be significantly affected by older garage doors that are distorted, cracked, or have a faded finish. They also don't have great insulation properties and the overall quality of modern garage doors.

Once you've integrated some of these curb look tips into your garage door, take them to the entrance of your home. Replicate your choice of style, colour and lighting on the front door of your home. A uniform appearance makes the exterior of your home more balanced and inviting.

Focus on fun

If you have a free-standing garage that is little used, you can turn it into an entertaining pavilion. If you don't use your garage to park cars, you can turn one or the other bay into a relaxation room. Billiards, table tennis, air hockey and table football are popular options that require a little more freedom of movement than an additional bedroom could offer.

Swing doors on one side of this once dilapidated structure and make the building look like a classic or fun meeting place. A large dining table in the middle of the room offers plenty of space for entertaining friends and family.
