Shopping centers face risk situations on a daily basis that involve their visitors and themselves. Are you aware of these risks and what you could do to minimize their impact? Here's what they are and how you can avoid them.

Security in shopping centers is one of the most complex issues in its structure and organization, since the purpose of these places has changed. Initially they were exclusive places to make purchases and now they have become friendly and welcoming spaces where people simply want to go "for a walk."

That is why, currently in shopping centers you see a greater number of people, especially on weekends. These places decide to re-decorate their spaces on special dates, such as Christmas, Halloween, love and friendship, Mother's Day, etc., and different and magical scenarios are created, where you can share with the family.

Thanks to the new concept that has been generated from the shopping centers, the security plans have been improved and updated, since now they must be strategic and comprehensive plans that contemplate not only industrial security risks such as possible fires, supply cuts or phenomena natural, but also include physical security risks such as: intrusion (unauthorized access), theft, personal assault, vandalism, arson, crowds, attacks and others.

They must be plans that cover all the needs of the people who are part of this community and that contemplate from the smallest irrigation to the largest. This is where all types of technology and control mechanisms necessary to protect and ensure the safety of people and facilities are adapted.

But you can also be part of the solution, with actions that will strengthen your own security mechanism. Next, we will give some recommendations that you can put into practice when visiting a shopping center.

If possible, do not neglect your personal belongings and if you find something that does not belong to you, give it to the private security personnel; They will be in charge of finding the owner, using the surveillance cameras and the monitoring that is done in these places.
If you notice a strange or nervous person around you, especially when you are withdrawing money, immediately inform the security personnel; this could be a possible offender.

Try to park your vehicle or motorcycle in the correct way, without obstructing the path of others. In the case of your car, check that the windows are up, that the lights and radio are off and leave it secured and with an alarm; In the event that there is an attempted theft of auto parts or an accident, the alarm will be in charge of informing the private security personnel. In the case of your motorcycle, you are in charge of verifying that it is secured, with alarm and properly parked. Only choose places equipped with a parking machine system. It increases the security.

Note: Do not forget to bring the regulatory documentation, it is possible that upon departure, the private security personnel will request it.

Avoid crowds and even more so when you see strange or suspicious people near you; they are usually criminals who want to take your belongings and those of your family. This is one of the most frequent forms of theft in this type of space.

If you observe people carrying foreign objects, inform security personnel; It could be possible criminals operating under the form of theft which consists of taking objects or garments from the stores that are inside the shopping center and hiding them on their body or in packages that do not look coherent in this space.

Now that you know these recommendations, we invite you to put them into practice on your next visit to a shopping center, in this way you can help improve your safety and that of others in these places.
