Investing in luxury property is a huge risk. It involves taking a lot of personal as well as financial decisions and is not something you’ll be doing every day. Thus, before you decide to buy yourself a luxury house, ask these 6 questions and find out their answers. Doing so will help you realize whether it’s worth investing in the property or not.

#1 Can I afford it?

Luxury properties are quite costly. Even the simplest condo or apartment can cost you over a hundred thousand dollars, just because of the ‘luxury’ tag attached to it. Hence, before you start looking for realtors or going through different property listings, you need to see whether or not you have the money to invest in a luxury property.

This will also help you plan a budget, and go through listings that fall in that price range. After you’re done with this, you can then start contacting real estate brokers and begin the search for the luxury home of your dreams.

#2 Is the location safe and convenient?

You can’t compromise safety over anything, and that’s why you need to get a good idea about the neighborhood you plan on moving into. Take a closer look at the property’s security features as well. Most luxury estates have world-class security systems. The one you plan on buying shouldn’t be any different.

Besides security, you should also check how convenient the location is. Take out a map and check how close the property is to services and facilities like hospitals, banks, schools, restaurants, shopping malls, and grocery stores, police stations, etc. Some agencies, like Maser Condo Sales, make things easier for you by integrating an interactive map to each listing. For instance, their Westside LA condos for sale highlights all the necessary facilities around each individual property, making it easier for anyone to decide whether the location is convenient or not.

#3 Do I need further renovations?

Renovations are more or less necessary after you buy a pre-owned house. These renovations, however, should not trouble your wallet. The total renovation costs should not come near or go beyond the price you paid for the house itself. If you realize that the costs are likely to reach those levels, you should immediately back away from the purchase.

To understand how much renovation work the property needs, you have to visit and inspect it physically. If necessary, you could even take an architect or a renovation specialist with you to assess the situation. They’ll probably charge you a small consultation fee by the hour.

#4 What will the resale value be like?

At some point in the future, you might feel like that it’s time to sell my condo and shift to a new home. Hence, when you buy the house in the first place, you need to think of what might happen to its value 10-15 years later when you want to sell it. Surely, you wouldn’t want to sell it at a huge loss.

To understand the resale value, you need to assess multiple factors including future area development plans, air quality, neighborhood, necessary and emergency services, etc. Areas that tend to develop over time also see a rise in the value of the land; so that’s going to impact the resale value as well.

#5 Does the property have a bad reputation?

Visit the property and try to have a quick chat with your potential neighbors. This will allow you to get to know them, as well as to learn more about the property you plan on buying. While chatting, do inquire about the property’s past and whether or not it has any sort of bad reputation. If you come to learn about anything suspicious or worrying, you should talk it out with the realtor or previous owners. If the rumors surrounding your house are serious, you could even inquire about it at the nearest law enforcement agency.

Even if the rumors sound funny or don’t bother you at all, they’re likely going to affect the property’s resale value. When you try to put the property back on market, people might be afraid to approach it because of its bad reputation, even though it’s all just baseless rumors.

#6 Will it suit my lifestyle?

There’s no point in buying a luxury house if it’s not going to suit the lifestyle you’re used to. Even if you intend to bring in some changes to that lifestyle, there’s no telling whether you can adjust to it or not.

Hence, before you sign those papers, try to imagine yourself in that house, and see whether or not you feel happy about it. After all, you’ll be living there for a long time, and you wouldn’t want to do so while having any regrets regarding buying the house in the first place.
