Salvador Chavarria Discusses the Importance of Quality Fencing Materials

Fencing materials come in many different forms. Salvador Chavarria, a fencing contractor from Austin, Texas explains that matters most is using the right type of fence materials for the right application. It’s a dirty little secret in the industry that many contractors cheat specifications. For example, they use even thinner wall pipe (e.g. .047 or .055 wall thickness, that has 15-28% less steel, respectively) when thicker gauge pipe is required or specified.

Realistically, you can use anything that could act as a wall or barrier if you want a barrier between two points for safety reasons. But if your objective is to secure your property, you will need high strength fencing materials that can withstand people trying to break through them.

The best way to find out what kind of fence material would work best for your needs would be by consulting an expert who knows what they are doing. Doing your own research in conjunction with this can make sure that what your contractor is telling you lines up. Sometimes cheap fencing materials may save you money, but Salvador Chavarria believes that the right fence material for the job may cost more – but will help you achieve what you want to achieve and may save you money in the long run.

Vandalism is another factor that needs to be considered when looking at different types of fence materials. Some types of fence material can be easy to vandalize and damage, which would only cost more money in the long run as they need replacing regularly.

Here are a few reasons why choosing quality materials for your fencing matters more than you think.

Make it Last Longer

The goal when choosing fencing materials is to make sure they last you a long time. If you're looking for fencing materials that will last, look into opting for steel posts vs wood posts, for example on a wood fence. They may cost more, but Salvador Chavarria feels that they'll be worth the money in the long run because you won't have to replace them at all in the life of the fence.

As with anything, starting with high quality materials is a must. If you are looking at using wood, make sure you have high grade boards to use. Grading standards are defined by National Lumber Grading Associations. If you are looking at other materials for your fence, make sure to do your research and consult with your contractor prior to giving the go ahead on any job.

The devil is in the details. Many contractors quote steel posts to consumers as part of their low-price offering, but don’t specify what grade (i.e. thickness of steel) they are using. There are basically three grades of steel fence posts: (1) Schedule 40 – used for industrial applications, (2) Schedule 20 (aka as BSS or .095) – used for residential/small commercial applications, and (3) Tubing (aka known as .065 or thinner wall pipe). .065 Wall thickness pipe is the absolute minimum someone should install on a fence project. However, many contractors install .055 wall thickness or even .047 wall thickness (the smaller the number, the thinner the steel) and don’t specify this to customers. Steel is sold by the pound, from mills, so thinner steel costs less. We recommend Schedule 20 (i.e. 095 wall thickness) on residential projects. We have seen situations where .065 fence pipe installed by others breaks under heavy wind-loads.

If you choose cheap fence materials, they will cost you more money over a few years than the initial purchase price.

High-Quality Fencing Materials Will Protect You Further

Suppose it's your goal to keep people off of your land without having any contact with them. In that case, Salvador Chavarria feels that it's important that your fence can protect from all angles - not just from one side, especially if you want to prohibit access by vehicles or offer maximum protection for sensitive areas or assets that you want to secure.

Make it Beautiful for Visual Reasons

If you want your fence to improve your property's aesthetics or increase the value, then using high-quality fencing materials will be important. Cheap fencing materials look cheap and won't make as big an impact on the overall look of your house, whereas pretty fences can make a house stand out from other properties nearby.

Make it Easier for You

Fencing materials like wrought iron and steel can be ordered in size you need, so it's easier for you to put up.

Be Sure You Know What You Want

If you don't know much about fence types or what would work best for your situation, then consulting a professional is important as they may advise what fencing materials would work best for your project. If you're footing the bill for labor costs, too, then high-quality materials could save you money after all is said and done.

Designers Love High-Quality Fencing Materials Too

For designers who work with many different building design projects, using high-quality fencing materials in their designs is much more appealing. Suppose you go over budget on your fencing project. In that case, the designer has permission to use high-quality materials like wrought iron and steel, which will visually impact.

Let's face it - if you're putting up a fence around your property or business, then it should be durable, functional, aesthetically pleasing, and protect you from all angles. They look great and can add something special to the overall scheme of things when used correctly, which could influence whether they get another project with you or not if they want to work for you again.

Final Thoughts

Remember, even though there are many different types of fencing materials available, only some will do the job properly well. In contrast, others will be good enough but lack that extra punch that makes all the difference. The key is finding out what your needs are and choosing accordingly.

Always make sure to choose quality over price where possible because this type of cost-effective thinking can save you money in the long term. As high-quality fencing materials last longer than cheap varieties, you won't have to pay for as much labor and replacement materials any time soon.

You should always consult a professional building project management service before starting a large-scale construction project to ensure that the decisions you make are the best possible ones for your needs without having major problems down the line.

High-quality fencing materials can be expensive at first, but they will last longer, which saves money over time - so choose correctly to avoid paying out as much as you can.
