Real estate is big business, and as many realtors and brokerages already know, there is money to be made. Unfortunately, that money too often comes at the expense of the client’s needs, leading prospective buyers through a confusing and complicated process for a property that isn’t always ideal for them.

Sang Min Lim, a South Korean native, who has built a life and two businesses in the United States, aspires to change all of that. He thinks that real estate transactions would benefit from more focus on clients and less stress on the bottom line. His real estate business , Sang Min Lim Real Estate (currently affiliated with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services and Keller Williams Realty), takes a different approach.

“I often see real estate agents pushing through their own ideas of what a client might need,” said Sang Min Lim. “That’s not what we’re about.”  

Sang Min Lim’s real estate business  works around a client-centered approach. Instead of focusing solely on finding an acceptable residential or commercial property for his clients, he strives to match his clients with the property that will meet their specific needs as closely as possible. He does so by using various marketing platforms, both online and some more traditional. 

Sang Min Lim keeps his client’s comfort at the forefront of every transaction throughout the process. This emphasis on the client’s requirements and the ongoing reassurance he gives during the process raises him to a level many rungs above that of his competitors. 

The Journey to Success

Sang Min Lim is well-versed in success. On top of his real estate business, he manages his own law firm as well, Sang Min Lim Law Firm. After moving to the United States from South Korea, he received his undergraduate degree from Brown University before completing his graduate studies in law at the University of Southern California (USC) Law School.  After receiving a Juris Doctor (JD) degree at the USC Law School, Sang Min Lim became a licensed lawyer in California and Nevada by passing both California bar exam and Nevada bar exam on his first try. 

“I learned a lot about how hard it can be to step into a culture that isn’t yours and try to figure out what to do and how to live in a way that will help you build a good life,” he stated. 

By putting that experience to good use, especially in his real estate career. As a realtor, he focuses much of his attention on clients from Korea, Japan, and China who are looking to secure property in California or Nevada.  

“It’s hard to navigate the real estate  market when you don’t understand English well, and I’m in the unique position to help”. 

Focusing on the People

Sang Min Lim strongly believes that businesses need a strong focus on client comfort to succeed. 

“We never want to lose sight of that and always want to be understanding of how the work we do doesn’t just affect someone’s business, but their life and their family as well,” he said. “As long as we stay focused on people, we do great work. It’s simple.”

So far, his reasoning has paid off in each of his ventures and has led him to find more success than he could have ever imagined for himself. He hopes other businesses will embrace client-centered care as well.

For Sang Min Lim, this work is the meaningful culmination of his long-held set of ideals. 

“While I was attending law school, I really started to focus on how the work I would be doing as a lawyer would impact people’s lives,” said Sang Min Lim. “Thinking about that prompted me to also think about how I, as a lawyer, could work closely with my clients to make sure they had the best experience possible, and also that they felt like they were in good hands.” 

It’s a sentiment he places at the heart of all his endeavors and takes the honor quite seriously.
