All in all, it would be silly not to look into having a fire alarm installed due to how crucial it is in terms of health and safety.

The figures

According to recent studies, there were 35,000 house fires in the UK between 2019/2020. They sadly claim the lives of around 200 people each year. That’s a whole lot of house fires, this is one of the biggest reasons for installing a fire alarm. With an alarm, you, and everyone else in your home will be instantly alerted of the danger giving you plenty of time to react. A lot of house fires also occur while people are asleep, a lot of the time people who are sleeping can’t react quick enough. An alarm comes in great use here because it can wake everyone up in time for them to evacuate the building. Studies have also shown that most of these fires started in the kitchen due to cooking appliances. Fire services have stressed to the public time and time again that a lot of these fatalities could have been avoided with an alarm installed. Tragedies like this can affect way more people than the people who were actually involved in the fire itself, friends and family of victims could be highly impacted too. If studies like these aren’t good reasons for installing a fire alarm, then we don’t know what is.

It can be a huge weight off of your shoulders

Knowing that you have a fire alarm installed could allow you to relax a lot more. If you don’t have one then it could put you on edge, it’s a brilliant peace of mind to know that if worst comes to worst and a fire does break out, you’ll be alerted of the danger and given a sufficient amount of time to make sure that you and whoever you stay with is safe. Everyone in your home is sure to get a much better night’s sleep when safety is assured.

Smoking can start fires

If you are a smoker, then your home is significantly more susceptible to house fires than the residences of people who don’t. When you are finished with a cigarette, always make sure to dispose of it safely, it’s not uncommon for people to forget about the dangers and throw away the filter of a cigarette while it’s still on fire without thinking. Even if you aren’t actually a smoker yourself, this is still worth mentioning when we are listing reasons for installing a fire alarm considering you could possibly have some guests over who do.

It could allow you and your family to carry out an emergency plan

It’s not a bad idea to practice exactly what to do in an emergency with everyone in your home, this could be very beneficial and is a great idea for every household to practice. An example of something that could be in this plan would be having everyone in the home meet in a designated area. Going over something like this could minimise confusion and panic in the event of a real fire, which could ultimately save lives.

Fires can start due to unattended cooking

Everyone uses their kitchen for cooking, it’s been shown that a lot of house fires start due to things being unattended in the kitchen. This is a mistake even the most experienced and safety cautious person could make. Whenever you leave your kitchen while you are cooking it’s vital that you ask someone to keep an eye on things for you to avoid problems from arising.
