Keep Your Mail Safe With These Practical & Easy Tips Photo by Ylanite Koppens: https://www.pexels.com/photo/letters-and-an-eyeglass-on-table-1809342/

Mail theft has, unfortunately, never been more common. More and more people are having parcels stolen from their doorsteps when they are away at work or at home but unaware they have been delivered. Because of rising levels of mail theft, now’s the time to start protecting yours. There are many different ways of securing parcels, from setting cameras up on your home’s front porch to installing a metal mailbox. This point’s intention is to share some practical and easy tips with you that you can use to keep your mail safe.

Locking Mailbox

The most effective way of keeping your mail safe is to install a locking mailbox on your property. A locked mailbox will make it impossible for criminals to access and steal your mail. These boxes come with a lock, which means that in order to access your mail, criminals would have to pick up or break it. The addition of a lock makes theft almost impossible, especially when you consider the fact that the average thief isn’t going to stand by the side of the street trying to break into your mailbox. The reason mail theft is so common is because of opportunists. Criminals see an opportunity to steal your mail, and then seize it. The average mail thief isn’t a career criminal who excels in picking locks and stealing from safes, which makes a mailbox a great way to deter and prevent thefts from occurring.

Security Gates

Security gates are a great investment, especially if your home is located in a high-crime area. A security gate will make theft almost impossible, as criminals will not be able to get onto your property. The addition of security gates can be expensive, though. The average person’s budget does not extend to gates that run the perimeter of their homes. If you cannot afford security gates, then at the very least fit a mailbox and a doorbell camera. If security gates are within budget, then in addition to a locking mailbox, you may also want a slot in one of your gates that makes it possible for mailmen to put mail through. Some people have slots that then open into locking mailboxes. When mail is posted through the slot, it falls into a chamber that’s opened by pressure and locked when the parcel drops into a secure holding area.

Buying Cameras

Finally, consider cameras. Cameras on your property can serve as a deterrent. Very few mail thieves, mainly due to their opportunistic nature, walk around with masks on. A camera therefore protects your property, because no criminals are going to walk up and steal parcels from your doorstep without a mask, knowing they are on camera. Be sure to put signs up around your property notifying people that you are recording, so that you can effectively prevent thefts from occurring. Putting cameras up but not telling anybody isn’t going to serve as a deterrent because people are not going to even know cameras exist. A doorbell camera should suffice if you cannot afford proper CCTV cameras.

With mail theft rising, there’s never been a better time to focus on keeping yours safe. The guidance given here should hopefully help you to get a better understanding of how to protect your mail. Incorporating the guidance offered in this post will deter and prevent theft.
