How to Manage Your Trading Psychology

Before you can expect to be profitable at trading, you have to get a handle on your psychology. The following tips will help you make an ally out of your mind.

Leave Emotion out of It

This is advice every trader hears, but it’s worth highlighting one more time: investing and emotions don’t mix. It’s fun to think about the romanticized image of an investor putting it all on the line, making the right call and walking away with millions. Top investors leave their emotions at the door and go back to get them at the closing bell. Do the same.

Know Yourself

Here’s the thing about the above advice though, it’s really difficult. No one can actually turn their emotions off. While you want to keep them out of the game as much as possible, it also helps to you know yourself. By this, we mean you should actively take note of how your emotions change throughout a day of trading. Obviously, a win is going to have you excited and a loss will have you a bit down. What comes after that, though? When the initial happiness of a win fizzles out?

You’ll probably be surprised by what kinds of habits you pick up on when you track yourself throughout the day. By doing so, you can avoid situations that trigger bad emotions and double-down on those moments when you’re in control.

Cling to Nothing

This is something that will be tremendously helpful, especially at the beginning of your career. Binary options trading is a fluid pursuit. It’s always going to be changing. Therefore, you can’t afford to cling to any one strategy. In terms of strategies, always remain fluid. Otherwise, you’ll suffer the same fate as so many novice traders before you. They take their time investigating how to trade, learn a proven strategy and then go to work. At first, it might actually show them profits, but eventually it is no longer worth using. This breaks a lot of traders who cannot let go of something they thought was their silver bullet. Don’t give up on a strategy just because of choppy waters, but don’t live and die by it either.

Understand You Have No Control

Here’s a scary pointer most traders can’t deal with although it's true. You have zero control over the market and all you can do is trade when it makes sense. The nice thing about binary options is that you have endless opportunities to trade, but only as you become experienced. Until then, wait and watch and when it makes sense, strike. If you can’t be patient, you won’t be profitable. Understand you can’t make the market move when and where you want, use down times to brush up on your education instead.

Managing your trading psychology is something far too many traders never get around to. Make it a priority and you’ll soon be a big step ahead of the competition.
