It is common that burglaries happen nearly every day in some part of your town or city. Amid this chaos, some people manage to protect their homes from thieves and some are not so fortunate. If you’ve just faced a burglary in your home or someone nearby, it is obvious that you’d be looking for a permanent solution to this problem. For the protection of your home and family, we suggest you look through the following points to ensure that your home remains safe and sound in case a burglar decides to come snooping.

1. Do away with the letterbox

Burglars use ingenious methods to crack open locks. You’d never even think of such tricks but a thief has them up their sleeve. A letterbox is like a doorway to a skilled thief. They can insert one of their lock picking devices through it and manage to break the lock, eventually gaining easy access to your home. A burglar might also end up using a fishing rod to be able to reach the keys through the letterbox and manage to open the lock on your door. There is nothing more unsettling than such a possibility, which can well be avoided by getting rid of a door that consists of a letterbox.

2. Install a burglar alarm

This is the most important step you must take even if you haven’t been a victim of a burglary. A burglar alarm will ensure that nothing drastic happens while you’re fast asleep. You can activate the burglar alarm in places where you won’t be present at night, and just in case a thief manages to break in, you’d be immediately alerted. And even if you don’t have a shotgun at your expense to deter the thief, at least you’ll be able to call the cops just as soon as you hear it. A burglar alarm makes it so much easier to deal with burglars.

3. Cameras are the way to go

Don’t shy away from the idea of installing a CCTV camera at your home. They aren’t that expensive and you won’t have much of a hassle anyway. So whether it is a burglar trying to enter your home or an uninvited guest, you’ll be able to know who it is. A camera deters a burglar, and even if it doesn’t, at least you’ll be able to figure out the identity of the burglar through the captured image or video, which can later come in use when you lodge a complaint. The police will also find it easier to find the culprit.

4. Get a smart door lock

A smart door lock goes a long way to prevent burglaries. Most door locks come with Bluetooth or Wifi connections to your Smartphone, and can only be accessed by the owner. So just in case a burglar targets your home, the burglary can be prevented entirely because such locks are hard to break into. Even if they do figure out how to crack the lock, some smart locks come with sensors and cameras that can capture the image of the burglar trying to breach. Locksmiths can suggest such useful smart door locks to you in case you’re confused as to which you should pick.

5. Guard dog on duty

This is an entirely optional procedure. If you love dogs, and can’t wait to have a pet, rest assured that a burglary can well be prevented when a dog is there to guard your home. Dogs, as we all know, are loyal pets who won’t bat an eye when it comes to protecting their owners and their homes. So it is always great to get a dog who will not only be your loving companion but also guard your home from notorious thieves who can cause harm to the safety of your house.

If you follow the aforementioned steps, you’ll surely avoid the possibility of a burglar trying to breach through the security of your home, so that you can sleep soundly without having to constantly worry about your family’s safety.
