Furniture packing is one of the first things you need to take care of when you want a full house removal to go smoothly. Although many people agree this is the most time-consuming part of the entire process, there are some ways to make it simple, effective, and, most of all, stress-free. Today we bring you five tips for preparing and packing furniture for the upcoming move, so keep on reading to find out what they are.

Make inventory

Efficient moving strategy should start with making a thorough inventory. Few weeks before the moving day take some time to create a list of things you plan to bring with you to your new home and dispose of those items you no longer need. It is also a good idea to measure every piece you are going to transport and get a floor plan of your new place in advance in order to make sure that all your furniture will fit into your new apartment. An undeniable advantage of making an inventory is the fact that it will help the movers assess the price of the move. It will also act as a checklist, allowing you to make sure all your belongings arrived safely at their final destination.

Get supplies

Once you have a clear picture of all your belongings, you can estimate what supplies, such as cardboard and plastic boxes, tape, paper, and plastic wrap you will need. To minimize the cost of those supplies you can rent plastic boxes from a moving company, or ask your friends if they have some leftover bubble wrap or unnecessary moving blankets. It is a great alternative for everyone who wants to save some money and stay green.

Take a risk-based approach

Every one of us has some items which seem impossible to move, at least at first glance. Things like bulky sofas, antique dressers, vintage mirrors, intricate light fixtures, or art often require special attention, so it is best to hire professional movers. If you are planning on moving that particular piece of furniture only, it might be best to call professional furniture removalists specialising in smaller moves who have specialized equipment, as well as experienced crew to handle transportation of such delicate and precious, yet often unwieldy objects.

Prepare your furniture for the journey

Wooden, leather, and glass items are very prone to transportation damage, as these delicate materials can get scratched, torn, or broken very easily. Wooden furniture will arrive safely if you put a thick layer of furniture wax on them and wrap them in bubble wrap. Leather goods should be covered with moving blankets and protected with stretch wrap, and glass items are best transported when put between corrugated fiberboard secured by tape.

Make it portable

With a growing popularity of ready-to-assemble furniture it can be safely assumed that many people have movables which can be disassembled before the move. It is a great way of transporting chairs, tables, closets, and even sofas, as taking apart at least some of your belongings will save valuable moving van space. A little tip – keep all parts and screws together, preferably in a labelled and sealed plastic bag, to make it easier for you to assemble the furniture back without any issues.

By implementing our five simple rules for packing furniture for moving you can be sure that all you belongings will arrive safely at your new place, regardless of whether you are moving your entire house or just a few objects!
