Why is Your Move Out Cleaning Such an Issue

 Vacuum cleaning

When our tenancy agreement expires or we decide to move out, problems begin to appear one by one. First, we have to choose our next residence, then schedule removalists to carry out our luggage and furniture, and last but not least - leave the property in a perfect condition. Since we want to receive our bonds back, we can not afford to compromise. Most landlords are quite demanding and pay attention even to the smallest details when it comes to the house cleaning.

Read on to learn how to fix the issues that may pop up when you do your end-of-lease cleaning.

What are the Policies?

Usually, at the beginning of your tenancy, you sign a condition report, which shows important information, containing the exact state of the property before we moved in. This report includes details about the cleanliness and shape of all appliances, furniture and the whole property interior itself. Your duty when you’re moving out, is to return the house/flat in the same condition level as it was described in the report. You must not clean or repair things that were dirty or broken at the starting point.

However, sometimes accidents happen and we may cause damages. In this case we should fix things and it will be a good idea to talk with our lessor about how to do the repairs so that both sides remain happy.

In Which Cases You do not Pay for Damage?

Normally, you do not have to fix anything, that has been worn out from years of usage.

Damages caused by normal human consumption or natural forces are not your responsibility. A typical example is the carpet worsening in the areas where we usually pass most frequently. Since carpets are often the big problem, landlords and real estate agents pay close attention to it.

Laws in most countries says that you have to hand over the property in the same condition as it was when you moved in, nothing more than that. If you remove the stains and vacuum it by yourself, and the carpet looks like in the beginning, it is absolutely legible to not steam-clean it. However, if you have pets, or you have damaged the carpets a lot, the best thing you can do is hire professional inspection cleaning service to steam-clean the coverings. This way you will be sure that you will receive the bond back.

How Your Furniture Should Be Arranged?

If you made any changes in the property, ensure you reverse them before the inspections. For example, if you rearranged the furniture, or changed the paintings on the walls, you have to put them back in place, so that the landlord won’t have objections. Sometimes it will be a good idea to discuss with your landlord is it necessary. Your changes may be for good, and he may consider to leave them this way. You could even request a repayment if he wants you to leave your additions behind.

The Final Inspection

When it comes to the final inspection, it is usually held in the last month, often in the last week or day. You must be present at all costs. If you are busy, find a representative who will be there on your behalf and definitely you should request a copy of the condition report from your landlord later.

In some cases your agent/landlord would arrange the inspection to conduct when you have already moved out. This situation is not in your favor because during this period of time everything could happen - dust, leaves or pests may appear. You can insure yourself by taking pictures or video of the rooms just before you leave it.

My final advice is to take your cleaning products with you at the inspection just in case there are any last minute things to clean up or fix.
