10 Ways Household Bills Can Sell Your Home Faster

Written by Posted On Saturday, 08 June 2019 00:07

If you’re thinking about selling your home, then you already know what inquiries you may expect to hear from potential buyers. They are going to inspect the kitchen and the bathroom first, and ask you about the average monthly bills the next. While the last question is mostly dreaded by sellers, we have a few options that will make you feel at ease.

Here are a couple of instructions on how to reduce your utility bills, make your home greener, and increase chances of selling your home at a good price.

Cut the electricity bills

Your home is filled with gadgets and machines devouring electrical energy, yet we still need them. Fortunately, we aren’t going to make you leave your comfort zone. Simply make a few adjustments:

  • Start washing your clothes at lower temperatures – did you know that a washing machine is one of the biggest energy sucking machines in your household? A washing machine wastes 90% of its energy on heating the water. By even just reducing the temperature, you will have saved a decent amount by the end of the month.

  • Replace the light bulbs – similarly to the washing machine, the energy used by ordinary light bulbs is mostly used for heating the bulb. Incandescent lights use from 25% to 80% less energy, and can save you up to $75 per year.

In addition, you can install motion sensor lights outside your home. They will light up the area around the house only if there is some movement detected.

  • Replace the air filters – dirty filters make your air conditioner struggle and use more energy. This should be done on a monthly basis.

Save water

Apart from dealing with all the leaks and not letting water run while you brush your teeth, here are some more practical ideas:

  • Install a low-flush toilet – according to some estimates, you should be able to save $110 per year.

  • Get an electric tankless water heater – not only are they small and convenient to install, but they will save you both water and electricity. Just think how much water is wasted while you’re waiting for the hot to run. An electric tankless water heater will reduce your bill by 10-15%, which on the annual level adds up nicely.

  • Take shorter showers – it doesn’t cost you a dime, and it saves you a lot.

  • Cover the pool – if you have a pool in your garden, use a cover to prevent unnecessary evaporation.

Minimize the gas bills

Heating bills can be reduced with some minor sacrifices:

  • Set the thermostat a few degrees lower than usual. The difference in the room temperature will be slight, but it will show on the utility bill (5% to 10% smaller).

  • Get dressed – if it’s winter outside, there is no need to be in shorts and t-shirts inside, is there?

  • Insulate the doors and windows – simple caulking and weather stripping goes a long way, depending on the size of your home.

Some green solutions are more money-saving than the others, but if you combine them, you’ll definitely be able to proudly show off your monthly utility bill.
